I have two helos, an HK-450 with AR6100 reciever and a trex-600 ESP with AR-7000. I also have the new co-pilot 2 that I will be installing on my 600. I have been flying them with my DX7 tx. I purchased a used XP9303 with 2.4GHz module that I recieved today and was trying to set up. Most of it I get but I am having a problem with the gyro setup. I really like the way it can be set up for auto so the different flight modes have different gyro gain values and I can do more than just two like on my DX7. So my problem is the manual says the gain for the 9303 is through the AUX2 channel. My 450 rx only has the six channels, no AUX2. So I wanted to know if there is a way to change it so the gain is through channel five (gear) and still be able to use the auto function. I know I can use the endpoints for channel five to adjust gain but that only gives me two values and I have to manually switch it. I really hope there is a way and some one smarter than me has figured this out because I wanted to use the gear channel on my 600 for gain also so that I could use AUX2 for the co-pilot especially since it is a three position switch.
If anyone has advice on this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

To the best of my knowledge, the Gyro menu cannot be used on the X9303 on channel 5 (Gear).

This was corrected on the 12X.

The people I know who are flying the X9303 with a six channel reciever are using Channel five to manually toggle the gyro using endpoints to control the gain.

I have watched a couple of people struggle to adjust their gyro gain, only to find out it could not be done.

Not sure this will work, but you can set up a 'curve mix' to pretty much any channel, switched on flight mode.

Or maybe you can do a linear mix from channel 7 to channel 5?

Ah Clem is correct, you gotta be running a 7 channel rx to use the default gyro gain setup on the X9303. Finless has a video on setting up the X9303 and he talks about using the method Ah Clem mentioned.

Seems like a real programming error on JR's part, but that's the way it is.....:(

Oh, it does work on channel 5 with my 12X as mentioned, but that's not a lot of consolation.

On the 9303, the Govenor menu can be set to output on channel 5. Use that for the gyro gain.

cbflys,

Could you describe how?

I could not do it in Device Select. If there is a way to accomplish this, it would be great!

Sure ...

On the "Devic.SEL" menu, set the output for GEAR to GOV. This will set the GOV function to output on the GEAR channel (channel 5).

On the GOVERNOR function, you can enter a value for each of the flight modes. Positive values (+1 to +100) would correspond to the desired gyro gain in Heading Hold Mode and Negative values (-1 to -100) would correspond to the gyro gain in Rate mode. Just enter the gain you want for each of the flight modes.

Chuck,

I have managed to do this in the 12X, but not the X9303.

Thank you.

Keith,

Can you try it?

Thank you.

There is nothing to try. Just set it up the way I told you and look at the MONITOR screen. You'll see what's being output on channel 5. As long as you plug the gyro gain lead into channel 5, it'll work.

You're just using the GOV function for GYRO gain.

Chuck,

My apologies. I did not catch that you are using the Governor menu (and you were clear about it-my error).

Am I correct in assuming that you cannot use the Gyro Gain menu on channel five?

That's correct - on the X9303 you CANNOT output the GYRO function on the GEAR channel.

And actually, using the GOV function for the GYRO is much simpler. You just dial in the gain you want for each of the flight modes. Like I said, positive values for HH and negative values for RATE. The actual value is the gain.

Thank you sir!

You guys rock. This is exactly what I was looking for. I will try the gov function. It's too windy today but I will let you know. Thanks for all the replies.

Sure ...

On the "Device SEL" menu, set the output for GEAR to GOV.

Well now that's darn interesting. I have a X9303 and a AR6200 in the bird and my gyro's never been what I thought it should. Guess I've been buzzing around in rate mode all this time. :arggg:

So... let me see if I have this straight: if I do the device select and put the gear channel to gov and set the gov up at Norm = +60%. ST1 =+ 60%, and ST2 = -50% that should do it? Of course the 60% value for HH mode is arbitrary and may need to go up or down.

How much bigger is the AR7000? :thinking

6, I'm not familiar with that radio but if you're new to helis, you should browse through here - Trex 450 SE and general build videos are here - HeliFreak.

You may not find specific answers here but if you spend some time looking you should get a good overall view of how things work.

Look though the forums too. Great resource in this brain pool.

If you can't find what you're looking for, find a forum for that topic and ask. :dontknow

It takes some time but the result is hours and hours of fun.:smokin:

Cheers,

Mike

hmmm. x9303, trex450, ar7000, gy401, ds3400g. I am using the gear switch with my travel endpoints set at +27, -50. I haven't tried it yet but it works on paper.

The AR7000 has an Aux 2 channel so I think you could just plug your gyro sense into that and set your gain normally without using the governor work-around.

BTW the gear work-around works like a champ!
