Hey all,
Someone asked me to buddy box them this weekend. This guy had a 9CHP setup for a Raptor.
In this case 9CHP was the Master and the 14mz was to be the Slave.
I created a new model in my 14mz, set it up to Student (Slave?), PPM and 8 channel. I removed the antenna and the module.
When we tested it out, the Mode seemed to change.
The right stick controlled Throttle/Pitch and Rudder.
The left stick controlled Aileron and Elevator.
I spent a total of 10 minutes doing this and decided not to bother when it was reversed.
Anybody have a clue as to why this happened?
I haven't tried the Trainer mode with the 14mz before.
And Yes, this is a US version (Purchased from Ricks).
The only thing I can think of was that the removal of the Module caused it to default to mode 1...
Thanks,
Mike...

Researched the Forum at RCU and found the following from Bill Baxter:
The only solution would be to set up another model in your 14MZ transmitter that had a channel layout that's the same as the 9C you use from time-to-time. That way, you'd not have to change one model each time...just change to the alternate model setup.
There is no way for the 14MZ transmitter to take the standard input from a 9C (or other transmitter) and automatically 'know' which channel is which. It just takes the 9C's channel 1 input and uses it to operate channel 1 in the 14. 2 goes to 2, 3 to 3 and so on. The 14 has no way to know that channel 1 in the 9C is aileron, while it's elevtor in the 14MZ. You will have to map out a new model to do that.
Hmmmm, so it would be pointless to use a 9C as a slave box?
I guess even as a Slave I would have to re-assign the channels? :arggg:
Another guy asked to forward a mapping function to Futaba so you can properly use the buddy box.

When you set up the model in the 14 did you use the 14's default channel assignments or did you change them to match the 9c?
What you described is not mode 1.
You need to change the channel assignments in the function menu.
9c is
ch1 Ail
ch2 elev
ch3 thro
ch4 rud
ch5 gyro
ch6 pitch
14 is
ch1 thro
ch2 rud
ch3 gyro
ch4 ail
ch5 elev
ch6 pitch

Thanks Jeff,
I take it that there's no good way to use a 9C as the Slave, since the channel assignment is all wrong?

That depends.
If the heli is set up for the 9c then you just have to change the channel assignments in the 14, that's easy to do.
If the heli is setup for the 14.
You would have to reassign the channels in the 14 to match the 9c and then swap servos on the RX to match the 9c.
The only place the new channel mapping of the 14 makes a difference in a heli, is if you have an eCCPM heli.
And even as far as that goes if you are buddy boxing someone they are probably not good enough to tell the difference in the extra precision.

I am buddy boxing with a 9C no problems.
It doesnt matter which is slave and which is master! In order to do it you MUST set up for the 9C channel assignments. Ail, elv, thr, rud, gyro, pitch.

I thought it wasn't necessary to remove the module when buddy boxing. Because of the cable connection the module will be automatically switched off.

I do it as a matter of habit. You probably don't need to.
Futaba needs to come up with a mapping for this. I want to buddy box my son, but I don't want to re-wire the 5014 receiver to deal with it. Damn, I'll just have to buy a 12x to buddy box with

On the 14MZ club site I added this conversion mapping to the list of needed features. I would like to be able to buddy box my G3 RX setups with a simple radio as the student. Lets hope they do something about it.

You CAN do it but you have to set the 14Z to the old channel assignments not the G3 assignments. Then it works like a champ.

Hello Finless,
Thanks for your reply, and sorry for mine late.
If i'm using the "normal" channel assignments, is the G3 working as good as with the "14MZ assignments channel" ?
Thanks ina dvance.
Cheers,
Alex.

Just one reminder if you re-do your channels, on eCCPM you will get the latency on channel 6 if you use the old channel assignment (even with G3 receivers), with the new channel assignment you wont.
(full tests over at RR at this thread:)

Hello MrMel,
Thanks for your reply ! I've read and understand why it's better to stay in the "14MZ assignments" ! :)
We just have to wait for a reaction which I hope for positive from Futaba !!
Cheers,
Alex.

Just remember, if the model is not yours, you can re-do the channels on a new model, that wont affect anything (its stored per model).
But if the model is yours and you are using eCCPM, I dont recommend using the old channel layout.

Thank you MrMel,
As it's on one of my H1 heli, but as I'm occasionnaly let try my heli to my friend, I will stay with the right rx channel assignments !
Thanks again !
cheers,
Alex.
