I just joined a local club here in my city due to upgrading to a nitro heli t-rex700, well something happened the other night at our monthly meet that blew me away. I am 17 and have 2 yrs electric heli time before my upgrade. I was at my club meet and several of the guys joined in with the plane types drinking beer right away 3 pm ...this escalted to hard liquor and finally pot at one point. I do not know what to do these guys are adults and they were flying nitro helis clearly intoxicated. One guy buzzed the runway while a guy was landing and everyone laughed when the guy bringing in his plane almost crashed. I found out later that 6 guys drove home completely wasted ....I want to quit but there is noplace else to fly .... Anyone who has had experience with this type of thing help.... Thanks Rodney

That is wrong on so many levels, I don't even know where to start. I would suggest finding another club or avoiding those people if you can... there is going to be a problem.
Our club president is a police officer - we don't have these problems, but we do have some alcoholic members... they don't fly a lot.
If you paid to be in this club, I would suggest having your parent call the president and complain. You should not have to pay to be exposed to that kind of risk.
Here in the US we have the AMA, and a lot of clubs are sanctioned by the AMA, which provides insurance and strict safety code, which is very clear about alcohol and drug use. It is just not allowed, period. And regardless of where you are, there are probably laws about exposing people your age to drinking parties and smoking drugs.

Stay away - join another club. Be afraid, be very afraid.

I think an open letter to the club's board and members would be in order.
I like to get a buzz on occasionally, but I certainly don't do so when I'm going to fly (models or full scale) or drive anywhere. That's just stupid....
Jazzy's got it right. AMA has strict rules against drugs and alcohol and if something happened, their insurance would NOT cover it.

Don't place yourself at risk. I don't think that you need to leave the club but I would definitely not fly (or even be present) when the types of activities that you describe are taking place. You're the new guy so don't count on being able to change the club culture or enforce safe behavior. Just a matter of common sense and self preservation.
Just my 2c.

You certainly do start some controversial threads.
This one and Help...safe or not safe
Your only two posts so far were to create threads on subjects which are degrading to the hobby. What's next?
If you keep this trend up, some people might think that you are a troll.

Funny how your profile says your 29, but in your post you say your 17????
Not from Australia or would have spelt Sydney correctly.
Basically, your full of shit mate. Get your hand off it and stop posting crap.

You are off to a poor start my friend. You can post "what if" scenarios without making up lies. Helifreak, unlike many forums is made up of real people with identities and reputations. You don't want to pull stunts like this here.
