hey guys,
im looking at upgrading my tx, im flying with a spektrum dx7 ...
dsx9 will give me double the resolution in terms of speed and response ...
im looking at the 12x and im tempted :P what are the major benefits of the 12x over the dsx9 ?

I have both. I bought the 12X as I need the extra channels for my BK117.
The biggest plus for me is being able to sit with my wife on a winters evening and programme the 12X without that beep sound driving her up the wall.
there are of course many other nice features, but, its also heaps more expensive.
Comes down to what you will be flying with your radio.

the 12x looks and feels nicer. There are a few features that are nice, but I think for about 98% of heli fliers the X9303 or DSX9 would be a great radio

The DSK9/X9303 and 12X only offer the increased resolution with the higher level Rxes (7100 and higher). Both will be similar speed or slower than the DX7 in latency. Only the DX7SE (not sure what/if the inernational version is) offers the faster frame rate with lower latency, also only with the higher level (price) Rxes.

I also have both...
I like the solid feel of the 12, the mechanical throttle trim, a decent backlight you can select to on, off or auto; and a beep you can select to off. Most of the menu screens are similar in content, but the text seems to just look better.
A warning menu can be used to sound if the throttle hold, throttle stick, idle up gear switches etc are in the wrong position, a little picture of the Tx shows which switch triggered the warning. The 9 does this for some switches but its fixed and you don't get the graphics.
It is possible to set the throttle and pitch points where you like and add and remove points too which the 9 won't allow.
Also you can select both the stopwatch and countdown timer to start at point when you move a stick, or operate a switch. (Battery timer when increasing throttle for takeoff on an electric heli for instance). When you lower the stick you can set if it turns timer off or just keeps timer going regardless of subsequent low stick positions.
I was surprised how much heavier the 12 feels compared to the 9.
The switches can also be configured how you like, the 9 will allow some configuration.
You won’t notice the response times people are talking about; we are talking milli seconds here! 22 vers 40 odd! Its takes 60 to 80ms to inflate and airbag on your average car, this is over before you can blink....300 to 400 milli seconds for an average blink, so please don’t get too upset with the times posted. I certainly won’t loose sleep over it.
If you need the extra channels for scale etc then no contest get the 12.
If you like quality and a solid feel, get the 12.
If you just fly normally, don't need the extra 3 channels and don't want the best (a lot of) money can buy you won't be disappointed with the 9, it's a great capable radio with lots of features including multiple model memories.
One thing which is strikingly different is the spring tension of the 12 sticks, I am used to it now but at first it used to irritate me even with the tension wound down. The springs are much stiffer than the 9....Oh also the aerial although is on a swivel ball and folds like the 9, needs more space in a hard Tx case than the 9.. I like to use a single Tx case and the 12 won't fit in the quality solid case I bought for the 9 due to the angle of the aerial. I'm not sure if it can be unscrewed like the old PCM10 SX could be. It will however fit in the soft JR Egg shell type case. Wouldn't advise it though as its lots of money and could easily be damaged.
Hope this helps you decide.
