OK, so I can now (in real life) do fff, nose in (though still a bit nervous), occasional loops.
I have noticed when I crash during a loop it is always when I end up inadvertently inverted and falling off to one side.... sooo....
At the moment, I'm practicing nose-in inverted on the sim. I can now flip and hover at my feet inverted nose-in for as long as I want, and move it around fairly happily. It's still not completely instinctive. I get left and right correct as it has the same "feeling" as nose in regular. Sometimes I get forward and backward the wrong way round - I'm guessing because my regular nose in instinct takes over. I also struggle somewhat with the rudder. At present I'm teaching myself (this is nose in inverted) that the rudder stick "pulls" the nose of the heli in eaither direction. Does that sound like a regular practice? I still get the rudder wrong about 30% of the time.
My routine at the moment is:
Hover side in
Then come round 45degreed nose in.
Then come nose-in
Then another 45degrees
Then the other side in.
Then circuits
Then 8's, both directions.
Then flips (back flips)
then Inverted nose in hover.
I'm itching to get out and try flips for real and I'm fairly adamant I grasp inverted nose in on the sim so flips and loops have less chance to go wrong.
Does this sound like the right sequence of priorities?
p.s. - for anyone who has doubts about sims. I learnt nose in on the sim and when I tried it for real, apart form being terrified, it felt very natural. In fact, after a couple of beers, I hovered my rex about 1 foot off the ground and did slow piros and flew it nose in all over the place, just off the ground (which I still have not had the guts to do with no beer)! - not saying I fly pissed - just that the ability is there - just took some "relaxants" to get it out! :-)
