G'day Mates,

I've recently been flying my Ion-x with 2x5s1p 3700 Evo 20 packs at about 10 lbs. I've gone back to my replaced Stock Hacker motor (I've sent the neu 1521/1.5Y back to Steve to inspect).

With a 56T gear and am getting a very respectable 1900 rpm headspeed, only drawing about 2.2-2.4 ahr of battery for 5 minute runs with 50:50 sport/ light 3D. I'll probably be able to extend this to 6-7 minutes, once my batteries are broken in.

I've been using TG 690 all rounders (as per Chris at MA's recommendation) and they have worked great with my 12 lb heli with my old/replaced 7400 5s2p packs. FlightPower replaced these packs with new 5s1p ones, on my request. They did not replace them with the new formula ones, but I really cannot complain, since they did replace them!

Today I tried a pair of 680mm blades to see if they would be better for this lighter Ion-x. I used a pair of Helimax 680mm sym blades. They weigh about the same as the TG blades (~185g). The results were pretty disapointing, the TG blades were much more efficient and produced a better climb-out.

So back to the TG blades for me. Any suggestions for better ones with a lightened Ion-x?

Cheers,

Tom C

B and I are both running fairly light weight 690 V-Blades in the lower 170 range, I think the set I am running was 174.2, B is running lighter than me. They seem to work really well on this setup, but they do have a little more bite than teh TG's or any of the tapered blades, like G2's etc. If you call Vic Campbell and ask for the light weight blades, they will sell you some. Tell him you are flying an Ion-X and need them light. It may take a little while for him to pull a set for you, but it is worth it. I love the V's best and I have tried a lot of blades on this machine. I run +- 10 to +-10.5 and the machine is ballistic with these blades.

Thanks Will, I'll give them a try! Could you please give me an E-mail or Website to contact Vic Campbell? Thanks.

Thanks Bobby, I'm trying to smooth it out as much as I can. I do not want another Hacker 77 flame-out!

My only concern with V-blades is I've been told by some local guys that they are a little power hungry.

V's have more bite which means they can be power hungry depending on how you fly them and how your heli is setup. if you learn to pitch them right there is nothing more fun on the Ion-X. When you go from the TG's you mentioned to the V's you can reduce your overall collective range to +-10 to start.

Basically, if you check the Ion-X video we have here on the FREAK, you can see the difference in B's flying from when he was flying the Rotortechs to now with the V's. I think that will give you a good idea of what we are talking about how the V's perform.

Are you going to IRCHA? IF so you are welcome to try a set of my V's on your heli and seewhat you think.

This is Will on Robin's PC, sorry for the confusion. My shop is also our guest bedroom. :DOH

Thanks Will,

Even my nitro buddies say the same thing about V-blades. They too knock off up to 1 Deg of pitch on them. Not going to IRCHA, it's too long a drive from Australia for me! I'll give V-blades a call and see if they can save me a light set of 690's (170-175g). Thanks.

I asked for a "light set" and received a pair where each blade weighed 179 grams, after reading this thread I wouldn't say I got a light set...man oh man, kind ticks me off abit

Lol Mongo, I know what ya mean, I just meant in comparison to some other sets these peeps have gotten. I have a pair of 700mm G2s that only weigh 171 grams a peice, which yes are tapered, but that is pretty light compared to my 690 Vs' received at 179 each.

Shawn,

I'd send them back and ask them to find/save you a pair in the 170-174g range (I think you need to be specific with them). I have not gotten around to ordering a set yet, but I intend to soon.
