Default Trex and Wind Sensitivity?

Folk,

What would you consider the maximum wind handling capability of the trexse with the 430l motor and 13t pinion?

Today I had my second hover-flight on the Trex and the winds were gusting up to 15mph according to metar... I didn't have anything to measure with myself.

I was only hovering at about 3-6ft and the only real negative I found was a tendancy to float upwards with the wind forcing me to counter with negative pitch.

I'm just wondering what one should expect to be able to manage with the trex as we've got wind+storms scheduled the next week..

I fly regularly in 15mph winds... I flew and have a vid of me flying in about 20 mph winds and it was doable but hairy

Thanks Bob. I was very nervous about it's second flight in those winds but they seemed to be of little consequence with proper throttle/pitch control.... I'll keep on trucking.. ended up picking up a second battery today...

Just make sure you have a high head speed as it handles the winds better.

I enjoy flying the Trex in wind. I agree with Bob about headspeed. You need negative pitch to keep it from ballooning with a gust of wind. After flying slope gliders for many years it's easy to recognize the stall and compensate for it. Negative pitch is necessary. I'm flying with a Medusa 3400, 3S Tp2100 and 13T pinion.

I found flying in Idle Up in winds was far easier and predictable versus flying in Normal in similar conditions.

It also depends on how much character the wind has. Real steady smooth winds are not nearly as bad as gusty winds. Nearby upwind objects (trees, bldgs...) can cause significant rotor. Also, I generally find it significantly worse close to the ground. Normally the wind will be somewhat stronger at 8 or 10 feet, but significantly smoother.
