View Full Version : Problems with a 14MZ along with a separate Tx/Rx cam setup

Since I have my son home for the summer, I decided to move the camera tilt servo and trigger functions to a separate TX/Rx combo, as he is a much better pilot, with much better eyes. :D Anyway, I had a problem when I first tried to do this. The camera stuff worked fine (I'm using a Futaba 9CH with a couple of Hitec PPM FM receivers, in the Logo and the EP-8...), but I couldn't get the regular receivers in either model (a G3 in the Logo and a 148DP in the EP-8...) to work. They had power, but no signal from the Tx.

What turned out fixing the problem was powering up, and then letting the main receiver sync up with the 14MZ before connecting power to the camera receiver. Weird.

Hmmm... Still have problems. It just won't work reliably with two Tx/Rx setups. I'm back to having everything on the 14MZ. :( If I can figure out how to do it, I'll try "buddy-boxing" the 9C to the 14MZ and using the 9C for the camera functions.

Hi Gary,

I decided to move the camera tilt servo and trigger functions to a separate TX/Rx combo

Does the second receiver have his one powersource?

letting the main receiver sync up with the 14MZ before connecting power to the camera receiver

Probably a stupid question, but are the receivers on different channels.

If the camera receiver and the main receiver are both on there one electrical circuit I can't imagine why they wouldn't work. :?

Good luck!

Yes, I did use different channels, 60 for the regular stuff, and 46 for the camera tilt/shutter. In the Logo 10, both receivers shared a common power source (2-cell 1320/UBEC combo...), and in the ep-8, the camera receiver had a separate 1320/UBEC, as the main receiver was already wired to a UBEC off the main battery pack. Same thing, in both cases. I can plug in the power for the main receiver first, and then the camera receiver and all appears well for a second, or two, but then the main receiver stops working. The camera reciver and the 9C have no problem, it is just the 14MZ and either the G3 receiver in the Logo 10 or the 148DP in the EP-8.

It is a weird problem, for sure, but I've moved on. With everything back on the 14MZ, it gives me the option of doing "solo" shoots, or with a camera operator and the "buddy-boxed" 9C. I'm sure this bloody 14MZ can do this, but I have no clue right now on how to set it up. I may have to contact Eric Larson, who I know is a wiz on these things. :)

Gary,

How did you "buddy-box" the 9c for your cam operator? Does he just control a few channels?
Anytime I used a buddy-box trainer setup, the trainee always took over full control.

Thanks,

Scott

In the 14MZ, you can turn whatever channels you want enabled on and off. I just enabled channels 7 (tilt...) and 8 (trigger...). What you can't do is re-map any of the 9C channels, at least I haven't figured it a way. I'd like to assign CH 7 to one of the sticks, but I can't.
