Flew my lepton for the first time today - it kicks butt!!
I had one issue that maybe somone can make a suggestion,
I am using the 502 gyro with 9254 servo - the servo was pretty hot after the flights - also using 3.5amp Medusa BEC.
After all these years, I have never touched the servo after a flight - do 9254 servos get hot or is there a possibility heat from the Hyperion is affecting the servo - they are pretty close. The 9254 is also bigger then lets say a 9650 and may be picking up heat. anyone using the 9650 or similar servo - are you picking up heat as well.
Any suggestions or comments,
This is a great little heli. - great power and stability and flew on rails the first couple of flights - although finless was a big part of that - thanks Bob!!

Yesterday it was 100 ambient. My motor got to 171 after a flight YEOW!

Jeff, I will be flying today and see if my 9650 is getting hot from the motor. I cant see how it would but it is close to it. Seeing that the tail needs more power your 9254 mgiht be working a lot more. I know they get warm. The 611 manual actually tells you not to touch the servo after flight.

Are you running 6V BEC?

Yes, running the 3.5amp Medusa BEC - 6V.
Thanks, please let me know if the 9650 is heating up,
Thanks,
Jeff

if i'm not mistaken, the 9254 is only designed to run on 4.8V!

The 9254 will not last long on 6.0V. Probably the reason yours is getting hot.

You can get a voltage stepdown for the tail servo from duralite to provide 5.3 volts to the tail servo. Other wise get a 5.0v 0r 5.4V regulator.

I am running mine on a 5.4V UBEC and it stays cool (as cool is it is down here in the south anyway)

I would assume getting the stepdown from duralite is a better solution then the regulator - yes-no?
Does the step down connect between the serveo and receiver?

Do yourself a favor, check the drag on the tail rotor pitch change linkage and that you aren't running too much gain.

The 54 isn't designed for 6 volts unregulated but it will run on regulated 6v but the duralite stepdown is probably the way to go. It would go between the gyro and the servo.

Installed the duralite stepdown - that did the trick, servo is now running great and not getting hot - thanks guys for the input.
