When I lost my primary motor on practice day, I discovered when I changed motors, that my set up was motor dependant. I had set all my pitch and throttle curves for that particular motor and if you change to a less (or more) powerful motor, all the p-mixes change a little. A model that rolls perfectly at 80 mph, may not roll as good at 70 mph. The little extra vertical you get at 80 mph isn't there and everything becomes a little rushed and the timing on everything changes.
I also discovered that I had a blind spot. For whatever reason, the wind at my home practice field NEVER blows from my back on the left side, right side occassionally but never the left and at the NATS it blew that way for two days and I was not prepared. I wasn't until the third flight of "B" schedule that I thought I caught up. I learned some valuable lessons at this year's NATS and will be working to fix them before the US Team Trials in August.
What did everyone else learn?
