Greetings:
Crashed my TREX 450SE yesterday from 20ft up. Was running low on battery power practicing left and right banking. Did not listen to instincts. A gust of wind swung tail out of control. Damage assessment as follows:

1. One 315mm CF blade damaged
2. Feathering shaft broke
3. Damaged blade grip bearing on one side.
4. Bent Flybar
5. Right landing skid broken
6. Broken gears in Tail servo

Question: The damaged tail servo was a Hitec HS-50 Feather (0.09sec @ 8.4oz in). The most popular servo on this site is Futaba S9650 Digital Servo (0.14sec @ 50.0oz in)- big difference!. I've noticed sliding of the tail in wind gusts with the HiTec. Would the tail sliding or gust crashes be less likely with the Futaba?

Question: The Hitec and Futaba figures were from 4.8v. The Futaba has a higher performance at 6.0v (0.11sec @ 62.5oz in). Can I adjust to the latter with my BL-35G or will I need another BEC

Question: The other 3 servos on the main blade are Hitec HS-55 Feather (0.17sec @ 15oz in). Would I benefit to upgrade? If so, to what?

Thanks for all your help

I'm surprised your mainshaft isn't bent... Seems like an odd set of components. Of course, most of mine plant nose in :)

I like the 9650. Not only does it move some weight to the rear it's holding power and speed are a big difference.

Never really looked into this.

I am currently comparing HS56's and Futaba 3110's. The 3110's are quick and ample if you get different servo horns, the stock ones are too flimsy. I have heard the 65's are the cat's meow though.

Thanks for the reply!
You read my repair list better than I did...Yes, I do have a 5-10 degree bent in the main shaft. A HS1011-3 has been ordered.

I have ordered the Futaba 9650. I think my crash had something to do with this issue. I built most of the Heli but someone else put in the electronics.

Still need some guidance if the Futaba 9650 will work with the BL-35G in 6.0v mode. Do I need a Medusa Research's Battery Eliminator Circuit (MR-BEC-35020 2.0 Amp Potencia BEC)?

Thanks for the recommendations for the other servos. I may take the plunge with the HiTec HS-65MG (Metal Gears). WOw 25 oz/in & 31 oz/in. at the same weight as the 65HB. That Futaba 3110 is amazing at that price and weight, but something makes me feel that those HiTec's will outlast it. Any input to the contrary?

Let me know

The only problem I've had with the Hitec karbonites is gear stripping. I've actually had the arms break off the Futaba's before the gear stripped. I suppose the MG's would be more resilient.

Great!
I've ordered 3 of the HiTec HS-65MG's

That isn't to say I don't like my Futaba's. After some initial fitting problems (they are smaller), they have performed quite well. Plus, they are dirt cheap. You can't beat that.
