View Full Version : Something wrong with my Li-Poly pack?
I've had this thing since friday. I stared at it, I left it sitting on an open counter. I've put it in a box, I've put it in a heli. Fri I plugged it into the heli and spun the motor up, still nothing. I tried a couple more times. Today I got tired of waiting so I plugged it into the charger... It's sitting there now, nothing... it just quietly charges. I was really dissapointed. I expected it to explode as soon as I opened the box it came in. Maybe I'll give it a few weeks and some more charge cycles, but this was a pretty anti-climactic experience. Although right when I plugged it into the charger they started firing off salutes for the pre-fireworks show attention getters, that made me jump a little. :D
Haha, I cursed myself. After the pack finished charging I plugged it into the ESC which powered up, and then died. I thought the speed controller had blown, but it turns out there was a bad solder joint on the cell instead. Fixed now tho.

Sorry to hear you had trouble Sar. Did you fix it yourself or send it back? I to was a little leery at first with the LiPo's, but their Power to Weight Ratio :D is definitely in our favor as E-Helis evolve.
I have 3 of the TP 1320's and LOVE them. Using a Triton to charge. Thinking about getting a Zoom, but not sure which one yet. As somebody who had never used LiPo technology until last Friday, I had no idea just how potent performers they were. I am careful and keep an eye on them when charging though.

Don't ever talk bad about your lipos. They have a really mean attitude. Just remember, these things don't give you a warning. Just pretend they are a stick of dynamite.
So far the ones I have had fail, have failed open circuit with not destructive effects.

Worse. I went downstairs in the middle of the night for a glass of water recently. I left the lights off and I was real quiet to not wake anyone else in the house. While I was gettiung the water I hear two of my Kokam packs in the next room plotting to impersonate a person, register to vote, and vote for Kerry.
I keep them in separate rooms now.

Dangerous is a relative term. Some small percentage have exploded with fiery results. It is best to assume they are going to explode and take precautions. Of course your rotor blades can be dangerous too.

I fixed it myself.
I didn't want to wait to fly, and the pack has been working great. The vendor(LightFlightRC) did offer to cross ship a replacement ASAP and he was dissapointed that I fixed it as he wanted to see the problem himself for QC purposes. I kept the pack and it's been working great. I'll order more from the vendor since the other option was a discount on my next order :)
