Hello. I am here to introduce the new FREE service, the Airlias Design CAD File Upload Service. With this service, you can create an account, then upload your CAD related files.
The script was originally meant to be for a service like Rapidshare, where you pay for an account, but was modified for free accounts.
When you create an account, you have either 2 options. You can become a Designer, or an Enthusiast. If you think that one day you will be uploading files, please choose a Designer. If you do not have access to any of the CAD programs, or don't want to share your designs but browse other people's designs, please choose Enthusiast.
I can upgrade your accounts from Enthusiast to Designer if you had an unexpected change or some other reason. Feel free to ask me to at
chris@airlias.com
Currently, you have about 1 GB storage space. If you need more space, please email me.
When you upload files, please put the software you created it in before the filename. For example, if I created a T-Rex 450 tail fin in SolidWorks, I'd put
Solidworks T-rex 450 Tail Fin
as the name. This makes it easier for users to find parts for the program they are using.
I will try to get a category system running later, which will let you choose your CAD program to upload in.
Last but not least, the URL to the site.
The URL to the site is located down below.

The URL is http://cad.airlias.com
P.S. HeliFreak mods, if this thread is in any violation with the rules, please tell me. I don't think I violated any of the rules because there is no upload service like this on helifreak for CAD files and that I'm not making any money off of this.
Thanks, Chris Kim - Airlias Design

How do we know you are not going to steal our designs ??? From what I can see this Airlias is actually a business, how do we know you wont make a profit off other peoples designs ?

Yes Airlias is a buisiness but we don't do CAD design. The only reason Airlias is on there is because we're hosting the designs. Hosting isn't free, and we were required to put the company name on there.
If you honestly think that I'd steal your designs, then you are mistaken. I am a 14 year old boy, and I work with a 16 year old boy on the company. The only types of buisiness we do are web design and electrical design. I COULD do CAD design, but I am not going to because there are plenty of people out there who will do CAD for you.
Also, when you upload your designs, you are basically making them open source, as anyone who has an account can look and modify them in their own program.
Last but not least, you are covered by me, and the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/). What this license does, is it lets you redistribute the work and change the work, while requiring the person to leave the original authors name on there. By leaving the original authors name on the design, I usually recommend using the title block or some sort.
But seriously, if you think that I'd steal your designs, I think that you are mistaken.
Also, when people upload files to RapidShare, do you think that they think that RapidShare is going to take their file and sell it? No.

The point of the service is for hobbyists, in which you are prolly going to be giving away the designs. If you are a company that will sell products then you shouldn't be using a free hosting service.

Thanks for the good words guys. I personally think that if you think that people on a great community where people are so close togeether would steal other peoples items and designs that you need to experienxethis community more.

Hi Chris,
Help me out here please I'm a little confused. Why are you willing to bear the cost of hosting it? What's the idea behind the designer and enthusiast roles?
Thanks. It'll come in very handy I was considering cutting a few cf tail fins :)

Ring Leader, I am bearing the cost of hosting the server, because I think that it might increase the chance of people wanting to use my web design service.
The idea behind enthusiast and designer is to try and keep the memory usage down. I only have about 5 gb on this server. I am actually planning to either upgrade the plan later, or host the files on a completely different server, kept at my house behind a firewall. I still have to work on the plan, but if it works out, I should be able to get 250-360 mb running on my home server.
Also, I am asking that you do not upload other files which are not related to CAD at the moment. When I get my server running, you will be able to upload any kind of file that you want, as long as they aren't malicious or whatnot.
I may also have to have a couple of ads on the site, to help with hosting fees, but I will try to have them be out of the way.

You know Chris I have to say that's more of a website than many companies can claim for themselves, and your only 14! You keep going at it and you'd be a millionaire in no time. Good luck!

Thank you ring leader. The site isn't done yet. Haha I still have to redo the graphics and layout. The problem is I don't know if I had said this yet but I took the software and made some major modifications to it. I changed the way passwords are encrypted and even more advanced things then that. I had a problem with not having enough server space so I coded a multiple server storage system. Also, if you find your design with someone using it and saying that it is theirs, I have modified the log system to tell me how many people downloaded it, plus all of the
information such as IP logging and ip tracking. There is no way someone can take your design and say it is their own.
