Well maybe... if he has big hospital bills, he will have less money for food. So, it's not all bad :)

Didn't read the fine print so I'm not sure what this is all about lol... Doesn't look like a desirable situation.

It's not fair to bring UAV's into this, they are not models..... you wouldn't bring an AMRAAM into a discussion about model rocket safety.....

Must be government funded or something? Sorry didn't realize.

I looked for a video I saw a couple years back with some jolly ol' chaps flying a raptor in the woods with a handgun strapped to it. They were shooting targets and laughing and I was thinking 'yeah right one glitch or malfunction and your day won't be so bright"

Its a company called NRI (Neural Robotics Inc) I don't know if it was government funded research or privately by the company, but I dont think that particular UAV was goverment funded, a lot of defence research is done in house by defence contractors, to either keep developing technology so to keep up with the competition, or in the hopes of attracting contracts off of what they are doing.

WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT???

AND WHAT IN HEAVENS NAME WAS THE PURPOSE OF THAT EXERCISE???

That poor tortured heli. It reminded me of the kid next door in Toy Story who likes to torture toys. I thought for sure he was going to lose a finger or a nose on that one!!! My heart was racing during the entire video.

OMG, I need a beer after that one!!!

He was trying to dial in a auto pilot system called Ardupilot mega 2. Below was his explanation on his youtube video. I would have been crapping myself if I were in his shoes.

First test "flight" of my Blade 450 with Ardupilot Mega 2 running custom code (very primitive). Quite a bit of oscillation is apparent, It's trying to stabilize to a level attitude. The APM is in control when I flip the switch with my left index finger.

I'm scared for that guy. I was thinking the heli will just pop off anytime and hit him.

Assuming he was using a proper ball head on that tripod, those are designed to hold 2-5kg of camera perfectly still, no way the thrust from a 450 is ripping one of them apart.

The mounting to the heli would be the issue... make that strong enough and it would be pretty safe. That said, pretty stupid not to do it outside, or at least stand further away.

Probably a misguided exercise anyway - most stab systems will fail in a constrained system like that.

Hey guys, just want to let yall know taht I went from watching some videos on here to full all out youtube watching vids of helis to jet engines, to turbines, then to engine generators, to ship props to water cavitation damage.

Now what brought me back to helifreak was the thought of a possible cavitation on our main blades done by air pressure? HAHAHA is that why I have moisture on my blades sometimes? they feel wet after a flight....

I wonder if our blades get affected by pitting after so many flights due to cavitation damage.
