I can do the lower frame out of 1/16" g-10 or 3/32" g-10 (light color though) that is the plan. :) once design is good, I can do CF. it is pretty large piece of CF. I am less worried about the top portion. :) I do need to see if I have the right sized aluminum standoffs and screws.

one thing to keep in mind during design is that since this is a Joker the likely hood of larger cameras being used is great. The mount should be able to support as much as 3lb with minimal to no flexing.

one of the reason that I wanted to only increase the overall height by .5" adding dimension for extra strength is easy enough anyway. (and bracings where needed)

oh yes, how far does the motor gearing go into the lower frame? does it go below the two horizontal cross bracing?

if you measure up from the bottom of the stock frames you hit the metal pinion gear on the motor at 2.670" the main geat is up slightly higher (maybe .18")

they do not go below the horiz braces

I will use horiz brace hole as a guide then. looks good.

I know you guys are getting close......because I sold the maxi today to Martin (phover on RR) So I expect to be kicking myself in the ass next week when this mount becomes available and is the balls!! Rock-n-Roll guys. :dontknow

Then maybe start on one for the Trex 600?????

Regards,
Anthony

trex600 is after this. assuming I have energy . :D logo 24 design went quick though. (about 1 day from design to prototype)

to do a trex600, I need side profile picture with screwhole dimensions and outside to outside frame width. with battery provision on the side of the frame, I think it would be fine to put the nosecam on it.

having a working base design makes it easy to adapt to new onesl.

Is there a link to the 24 mount pics.

it is very similiar to raptor design, except for the mounting point is obviously different. one piece instead of two piece frame. (no separate support) it fixes to 3 existing holes in the frame. it is also bit wider than raptor version. I am finishing it up for shipping to my customer. (need to finish up the gimbal)

here is quick and dirty view of the lower frame side plate. basically, it has the 4" or so chopped off the front and placed on the back. LGs are moved back about 4" as well. main gear should be pretty well centered this way.

very good. I do believe that is going to work nicely. I can't wait to get my HC-1 camera on the Joker!

Pretty much got everything coded and simulation ran on it. the dimension is very similiar to the raptor (except wider and deeper) I am also making it 1" deep instead of .75" on the raptor. (really don't need it, but will make it extremely strong) should be cutting the lower frames this weekend out of g-10 and sending it to DJ. (with supporting strut) once he gives ok, I will cut it out of CF. I want to make sure that holes line up and it is rigid enough with existing bulkhead. I can add more cross bracing as needed.

my new gimbal will be cut this weekend as well. finally got everything worked out on it. should be fun weekend. (I just ordered another 500 bucks worth of CF. man, I am going through this stuff fast)

man, i gotta get out on the "other" forums more often...lost of cool stuff going on here...
a front mount for the joker would be awsome. thats what we use now, but mines a little on the heavy side and my fabrication skills leave something to be desired but im sure whats in the works here will be awsome....

well, here is the new lower frame sideplate. I am going to send them to DJ. once this is OK'd, I can finish up the rest of the mount (which is closed to programmed) this sample is cut from 1/16" g-10, so it is mostly for mocking up.

I had to setup my bigger cnc machine finally. this and others are big enough, so I can't use my existing machine. it is still not tuned to perfection, but definitely got it usable today. new machine allows me 25x14 travel. I destroyed quite a bit of materials tuning it in though. oh well. only money. at least it was g-10.

the final version will be cut in 2mm CF.

VERY cool stuff AskMan and DJ

Thanks for sharing it with us!!! :smokin:

Looks good. I'm leaving for weeklong vacation from Aug 15-22. If I get those test frames before I leave I can provide feedback and we won't be delayed while I'm away.

PM me for my shipping address if you don't have it any longer. Thanks!!!

should have it by wednesday. I have you address. it uses existing bulkhead, but moved around a bit. the front horizontal bulkhead actually will be below the motor/gears (with no canopy, cooling should not be an issue anyway)

front vertical bukhead is moved back in front of back horizontal bulkhead. Mostly I am curious about the strength in the battery area, since it is extended. 2mm CF will be much stiffer, so should be ok I would think, but I can add extra bulkhead if needed. (or less cutout if needed)

I just found out I could have gotten a aluminum lower frame for pretty cheap. would have save us lot of CAD work. :) (I nomally use engineering paper and trace the mounting holes and hand code it in since I don't have a good CAM package. (I am too cheap and most of the stuff is pretty simple coding) . :D

with luck, you will have everything to test by the time you come back.

askman, want solidworks 2006  my torrented copy sure is working great!

I run ProE at work and at home. I am well versed in it, as well as autocad. have no issues with generating CAD files. I run mach2 for CAM, but need to get rhino or better yet, mastercam for Gcode generation. (they cost about 1000+ bucks) frankly, I am really quick hand at handcoding. . even the most CAM program needs to massage the code anyway, and most of this stuff is pretty short code. I only need to program it once anyway. :D

Hi,
great job! Looks really nice.
But there are so many Joker 2 out there. So do you have any ideas creating a mount for that great bird??
I would be the first purchasing one for my Joker 2.

Thanks
Andy

I am sure joker 2 will happen. it is just matter of getting to it. I've had a few request already. just been very busy with getting this one done first. among other projects that I need to finish up.

like anything.... so much to do so little time. I've got the Raptor projects, Logo 10, Joker CX, and the front mount 360° gimbal to work on. Add to that my two day jobs and I realize that I need about 42 hours in a day and no sleep to get to them all.

Askman,

do you have an undercarriage-mount that fits the joker2?
Your mounts are very impressive, so i would like to use one of your mounts if possible. It should have pan and tilt ability and roll should be triggered by gravity.

Tank you in advance for your answer.

yup. I have a joker 2 mount. it is heavier duty version of my standard mount. have not upated my website with it.

will pm you.

Any news on the front mont for a Maxi Joker? Just checking in.
