Is this boom to far gone?

Unfortunately yesterday while having loads of fun flying around my stock battery decided to die halfway through a normal flying time. I have not really practice autos as such and came down pretty hard. But to be honest it could have been a lot worse.

The blades are fantastic but the fly bar was bent and my tail boom has a dent in it. This is where my question lies. I would imagine the blades must have struck the boom on the hard landing. Going by the picture which I have uploaded will I need to replace the boom or do you think I can get away with it? I'm just thinking of saving money... I do have a spare one but was wondering if I can get away without breaking into a new pack? Your thoughts please guys and girls.

Just my thoughts, but I'd replace it (since you already have one) and attempt a repair of the damaged one while it's out of the heli. It should be fairly easy to run something into the boom to push out the ding.

You'll cause your self more pain and agony by trying to reuse it than the few bucks it's worth .

In truth it looks like the boom may have a slight bend but it is difficult to see with such a small portion of the boom showing in your photo.

If there is a bend in it or the dent may interfere with the belt I say bin it for the few quids it costs.

I would replace it and check servos, main shaft, and feathering shaft. Any boom strike and or hard landing and you should check it out thoroughly.

Well I'm gonna wipe against the grain so to speak :shock:. If the boom has just a small dent in it and its not bent I would use it as long as the belt isn't rubbing. But if it is bent then I agree with the others and would junk it. Or keep it as an emergency back up.

If I had a spare on hand I would change it and keep the old one as a backup like spootman said.

Way too many Safety freaks here for my taste. Fly On my brother, Fly on. I usualy jam a smaller pc of metal or a wooden spoon handle, dowel, whatever, down the thing to knock it back out, but I fly them till they are broken, not till they dont look pretty. Murderball style

I don't recommend practicing auto's with a 400. Just understand how to do them and it will save you some money. The 400 doesn't seem do them very well. If you do try, don't them in the 5ft to 15 ft range

As cheap as they are, just replace the boom, it is intimidating if you've never done it but forge through cause it's not all that hard.

+1 for keeping it if it's got a dent. So long as the belt doesn't rub.

That's a great idea...I like that more than the lined walkway I have in my house...I may use fractured blades as the hangers....
