I have noticed that when I pull in up elevator and climb into a loop the heli tends to roll to the left, I want to try and sort this out mechanically rather than using mixes.
I know that you can adjust this by shimming the washout arms further out or in from the block. whicj way does each affect the heli (ie shimming out rolls left, removing shims rolls right)?

Easiest way is to use a mix. You adjust it out mechanically for loops and it is going to affect some other maneuver. Shimming the washout arms out really doesn't affect the phase timing that I am aware. Now tilting the anti-rotation off vertical will affect phase timing.

How does the swash travel from bottom to top? Interaction wise?

The other reason for solving the issue with a pmix in the idle up(s) is because if you try to mechanically phase it out, you'll upset the way the model hovers WRT to the purity of response to cyclic commands. All CCW rotation helis require some swash advance in aeros that is contraindicated in hover.
I've RARELY seen a mechanical phasing job that, when successful in cleaning up one maneuver, such as a loop, wasn't the wrong amount for another manuever, such as a roll.
