I'm looking to go to a larger e heli, currently flying the trex 450. Which would be a better choice, converting a raptor 30 or the JR voyager e? I have never seen a Voyager but the dimensions don't sound that big, seems mid way between the rex and the raptor, which may be a better battery situation. My current camera is only around 130 grams but I will probably upgrade, may go downlink on the cheap. Any thoughts?

logo 10 or raptor 30. for the smaller inbetween size, logo 10 is hard to beat.

while I have always had a soft spot in my heart for Voyager E's I can honestly say that the Logo 10/14 is perfect! The Voyager E was ahead of its time 5yrs ago but now it's a dinosaur and parts are harder to get and about 2x the cost of Logo parts.
I'm building up a Logo 10 now and plan to put a small front mount on it

how comparable is the initial cost? I'm looking at a complete/new VE for around $225

You can get a Logo 10 with A30-8XL and 70 amp Hacker ESC for $399 or so.
I had a Voyager E as recently as 2 weeks ago and decided that it just wasn't the best for the job. The Logo 10 will lift almost 2x as much weight and is not as twitchy in hover.

I'm not sure this is all that great a setup for an AP rig. First of all, that motor is too small for a Logo 10 that is on the heavy side (with a camera and mount...). This is the same motor I have in my stretched Quick Japan EP-8, with 420mm blades, shown below:

Sometime soon, Hacker will finally release the A40 series, which is a much better choice for the Logo 10. There are other choices as well. I have a NM 1910-1.5Y currently in my Logo 10 Carbon-based AP rig, but in the next week, or so, I will have a full line of the impressive Z-Power motors in stock, including the Z20, shown in a Logo 10 here:

Either this Z20, or the slightly longer Z30, should work much better than an A30, and are actually less expensive than the smaller A30s. The Z30s will be around $79 and the Z20s about $69. The basic Logo 10 kit is only $220. I plan on offering complete Logo 10 packages with a Z20 and a Phx HV 45 for the same $399 price, and with an 8s-3700 FP Evo 20 "NF" setup for $699. Adding an Askman underslung mount, as shown below, will add another $250.

This is about the least you can get away with for what I would consider a "professional" AP setup, perfect for doing real estate shoots, etc. I haven't tried carrying a three pound video camera on this mount, but it does quite well with my DSC-R1, which weighs about two pounds. With a 7-10 oz "point'n shoot", you hardly feel it's there. With the better models now having better lenses and 8-10 MP, that's more than good enough for anything I've come across.
Although the "package" price for the 8s-3700 FP setup is a very good deal, you can save a bit more if you use an 8s eMoli pack, which can be made for about $125 each. The difference is duration. I can get 8-10 minutes on an eMoli 8s pack, but about 15 minutes on the 8s-3700 setup. What I'm doing now is using the 8s-3700 setup as the "primary" configuration, and then use my two 8s eMoli packs as backup, in case I need the extra time.

Without Phx HV 45 controllers, or any idea when I would see the new Z20/Z30s. :D

Yes, it is. We live on the 14th hole of the south course here, in an area called Coto de Caza.
