Well I made the plunge and boiught an Ion, should have it in a week to two. Anyways it will be abit before I can get it Airborne but I need to start ordering a few small items as well as saving for others.

First I notice that many of you are talking about running a seperate battery for the receiver versus running a UBEC etc. Wondering which ones fit well and are weighted well for the Ion? I am thinking that Duralites would be a good one, as well I am sure there are several others. I'd like to be able to fly 4-5 flights before recharging and not worry about it if I can get something like that. I am assuming there is one out there made by someone that fits like a glove for the Ion. Looking for you owners out there who have it figured out allready to point me in the right direction on that.

THX :)

I have a large 4cell NiMh Rx pack in mine currently. But I will be removeing it for a Ubec. I am not running digitals, (except for the tail servo) so my current draw should be reasonable. JR4721's on eccpm.

over the past 3 years , I blowed 3 becs on a 10s setup , one was a close call , and all happened right after plugging in the batteries ,
I have 4 nimd 1950 high discharge battery on my Ion , 3 flights and I use about 1000 ma , anything more than that , the little bit of voltage thats left in the pack is replaced with amps to keep the servos going , and drains rather quickly . just like the big lipos , nothing gets hot untll the last 1/4 of your big packs , unless you got a motor from hell

Tony,

Only reason I really ask as I find it different that peeps use the seperate battery for this heli. I have a Koolflight UBEC 45V on both my Logos, both 10S setups and never had an issue with them. On this Ion however, I do think with the allready short flight times I will get as I will be going to (2) 5S1P then in series that will only get me in the 4.5 to 5.0 min range, may as well run a sep pack. What is the brand of the battery you have Tony and where to get?

I use TP 1320 2 cwll packs, and I can get 4 flights easy out of one. I also have a Tanic 2s2p I think 1660 that is a couple years old I got from B and it is good for 6 or 8 flights.

I run Duralite Regulators.

I"m also running TP1320 2 cell packs - easy get 2 10 minute and 2 6 minute flights. I just picked up another 1320 to run in Ion#2. I was going to wire it to Futaba J - but I am thinking of going MINI-DEANS so I can loose the blue-tape.

I had lots of problems with my KoolFlight 45 ubec's - I'm thinking it may have something to do with G3 rec's - but in any event no more UBEC's for me.

I run G3 RX's for the most part too and I prefer the onboard LiPo. Plus when it gets low, I can charge in just a few minutes with my TP 1010/210V

Shawn , yeh , the lipos is the best way with a reg , or better yet , the little small SBec , like the ones I blew should never wear out with a 2s or 3s small lipo , and plus it has a small switch , I will set one up like that on my MXR at IRCHA

Tony,

Where to get this small Sbec you are talking about? I did a quick look at some vendors, but obviously not the right ones....

i use a 2S 1320 TP, 5.3 V duralite regulator and good old JST plugs. each flight i drain about 150mah so i have easily enough for four flights. i check the rx pack voltage before every flight to be sure and it's been almost a year and no probs at all. i fly 8+ minutes every time with the 8000 prolites and about 5 minutes with the evo 3700's. hope this helps

hey
SBec (http://www.fxaeromodels.com/product_info.php?products_id=1575)

I used these on my Ion up to 13s at one time , but thats alot of voltage to waste down to 5v ,

I run an SR 1500 Mah NiCd pack. Every second flight I put it on my Triton while my 10S stuff is charging.. Normally only put around 300-400 back in depending on the flight plan...

Ok, quick question for those running the Lipo and Li-Ion packs, what regulator you running? The 5.1 or 5.3 and also any other reliable good brands other than Duralite that will fit well onto this Ion?

5.3 and 5.6 Duralite Regulators on my machines. I have never tried any other regulators, started with Duralite at the advice of Clintstone over 3 years ago and never needed to use anything else. I am actually still running one of the original DL Regulators I ever purchased in my Ion-X now. :)

Ok thanks for all the replies, got it figured out on what I am going to try. A 5.3 DL reg, some micro deans for hookups, a tp 1320 2S lipo and should be able to fit it all up and under the tray, thanks everyone. :)

I'm just using the Arizona regs that were ritualistically removed from the chests of my Nitro birds on the Alter of Ionus Rex, the E-heli God...The 2400 Relions came with them as well. I believe in going Lithium all the way, as a religiuos conviction. Plus, I can charge everything up when I get back from the field, and it will still be ready later in the week (unlike nicad and nimh). I can also fly all day without thinking about how much rcvr juice is left.

Also has anyone tried the ALign 75A ESC for like 90.00? I am very tempted to try one.

About the TRex 600 stuff...

The BEC is supposed to be 6v but is only rated at 3.5A, IMHO not enough for all digital radio gear, especially with a 601/611 gyro.

I've also got an 75A ESC (in the T-Rex) it's rated for 75A w/ 100A peak, but only 25.2v max, so maybe 6S is all it can handle.

It's got the nicest soft start I've seen on any ESC to date - soft start is also available in non-GOV mode. Limited feature set but everything that you NEED is there (just like the CC would be if 1.51 worked properly). Haven't tried GOV mode and probably never will, 'cause simple NORM curve and 100% straight line IDLE2 work great.

See you at IRCHA.

see, that is why i was asking about that bec.
one of the 600 i flew had al 9252 digis and 611/925* and that made me think it might be up to the larger helis as well.
