When you set up your throttle, do you set it up to use the throttle trim to set the idling and stop the motor or do you (Like my friend) use your throttle curve to set the idling and a switch to stop the motor?

Hey,
Personally I use the trim method, it's much safer to me as I am more used to pulling the trim down in any crashes.
Your friends use of the switch is all well and good, but it isn't a good idea to set the idle speed with your throttle curve points.
What if you need a little extra or less trim to maintain idle?
From a UK perspective I think there is a requirement that the motor needs to be able to be shut down using the throttle trim, if not then you are not considered safe to fly.
The "kill switch" is there as another alternative to stopping the motor quickly, the throttle trim is used to start the motor and set an idle speed.

Hey Coolice,
I agree with you completely. My friend does it his way in order to have the same amount of travel (ATV) both sides of center stick. I don't see this as being that critical on the throttle curve because the radio treats the "Trimed" idle setting as position zero doesn't it?

Hey Capman231,
Yeah your right to a degree I think. The Tx. though doesn't use the trim position as the zero point exactly, but as you say the throttle curve from trimmed idle point to full power isn't going to alter the curve so much to worry about it.
Your buddy can still keep the ATV values equal both sides using the trim way. I can and do on my models, you perhaps end up sitting down and getting the linkage and arms in the right place to do so but it can be done.
Even if you dont then just by altering the throttle curve points in the transmitter you alter how the servo arm moves through the carb travel anyway and so any worries he has of keepin things linear go out of the window straight away.
For safety I'd try and talk him out of that practice, he can still have his kill switch but the trim needs to be used to control idel speed.

I set mine to idle at mid trim. I can kill the motor but generally do not use the trim to kill the motor. I set a kill switch.

Hi Fellows:
I ran the OS 37 a little Sunday and got the throttle hold set at slightly above a slow idle and the throttle trim will kill the motor. I have been looking in my radio (JR 9303) and the manual for info on setting a throttle cut, but haven't found anything yet...Might just have to use the trim to stop the motor. Anyone using a 9303???

I use the JR 9303 and use the trim to kill the engine.

I use JR6102 and use trim for fine adjustment ,and the kill button for engine kill.

I use a Kill engine switch and throttle trim to trim idle on my 9C...
