I am brand new to RC and to li-pos. I just ordered the TP205 balancer and TP2100 Prolite 3s battery for my Trex 450XL. Now I just realized that I ordered just a balancer (I thought it was the whole charger). Now I see that I need to buy more stuff. :( I didn't see any complete chargers for TP that you just plug into 120v cheap. So I was wondering, not having the Tp205 balancer yet in front of me to look at, if all I need to do is buy a 13.8 volt, 8 amp DC power supply and hook it to the input of the balancer?

So I would assume that the balancer plug from the battery plugs in the Tp205 balancer, the power leads of the battery connect to the balancer and the 13.8 volt supply plugs into the input to the balancer, correct? The specs on the TP205 say 4 amps max so I would think any DC power supply capable of suppling 13.8 volts at anything over 4 amps would work.

Incorrect.......... a power supply is NOT a charger.
If your going the TP route, then you will need;

a) Charger
b) Balancer
c) power supply

The power supply feeds the charger which feeds the balancer circuit,
which in turn charges the individual cells. The balancer equalizes the cells
while the charger controls voltage and current and senses the end of
the charge cycle.

OK, doing some more research, I found a TP-425 2.5A Lithium 4-Cell Charger. So if I buy that and use my home made 13.8 volt power supply, I should be in fat city.

I wonder why they don't see a charger with builtin power supply. Doesn't make any sense to me unless they figure everyone is going to charge up out in the field...
