I am wondering what other G4 owners are using for their servo horn setups with Hitech HS-56HB servos. I am running the balls at about 13mm out on the servo horn - does this sound about right ?.
I also noticed that the left side servo will hit the lower cap screw near full deflection. I believe I am running about 6* of cyclic pitch and 10* +/- .

Also I had to sand the aluminium spacer to about 4mm to achieve good main gear alignment.

Kevin,

Yes 13mm is right.
As for hitting cap screw do you mean the right side? I have seen it were the extra screw length from the ball hits the cap screw easy fix was to remove the excess length with file or dremel.

Gear rubbing, this has been recently discussed I finally went through my stock of white gears and purchased a blue upgrade kit Well... align has changed gear length in the little output gear(the gear itself). when compairing the orginal(white) TR gear assembly to the new blue gear assembly there is about 1mm differance in length. To fix it requires file down the aluminum spacer provided in your kit. Im working on a way to correct this but still allow you to still use both style gears

Hope I helped

Thank you for verifying the servo horn length Charley.
The horn seems to be hitting at maximum collective with out any cyclic added.
I was figuring to just file down the nut on the horn and see if it would clear.

Thanks again
Kevin

P.S. - look forward to the beltdrive frame

I just finished mine G4 using the new 65MG servos.

I have to use a spacer and longer screws to get it all lined up....
But the controls work great and I get 11, -11 pitch.

NOTE: you will need to mount the balls on the second hole from the center of te servo.

Charley - do you still mount the 9650 at the end of the tail?
Also - I've seen people mount tail support rods on their G4's - what's your view on that - dead weight or usefull?

Jens,

No, I have never mounted my 9650 on the end of the tail (HS56 yes). But I use the 9650 to determin CG and build a TR push rod to match. Support rods useless not needed Some of the hardest 3D Has been done on a G4 and not once was it mentioned of needing supports
