Simple. Get the DX7se, unless your anticipating needing more channels (Like buying a 9 channel receiver for your heli so you can program your governor, gyro, other device like flybarless system through your radio).

The price difference does not justify the features of the x9303 for Heli fliers who only are using a 7-channel receiver.. I've had them both.

If you do sailplanes and fixed-wing, then the x9303 might be worth it for you.

I wonder what the rational was for dispensing with the trainer function? It is the one thing which puts me off the se version.

I wonder myself. The SE seems to be a significant upgrade in terms of speed and resolution and they leave out the sim plug... Is that they assume at Horizon that some people do not want to use sim ???? Very strange and I think that this simple fact puts many people off from even considering upgrading to SE.

It's almost as it they are aiming it at the "expert" fliers, your Szabos, Krauses of this world. Some of us mere mortals still need to train on the sim to get to merely <10% of their level - in my case less!!! Considering the technology, I am amazed at what appears to be an oversight, accidental or deliberate. There is a big market out there for 7ch TXs.

It has to do with the 11ms frame rate of the SE not being compatible with the trainer port, which outputs a PPM stream. It's been covered in several other threads you can search for more information.

Well I am not so bothered about the techno-mumbo-jumbo, just think it is a missed opportunity really. Do the DX7 and se have backlit screens like the X9303? I hate it when I can't see the relatively poor LCD of my DX6i.

My X9303 doesn't have a backlit screen. The screen is not great considering the cost of the radio, and how good screens have gotten recently, but I still love my X9303 just the same! I bought a DX7 and kept it for about a week before taking it back and buying the X9303 to replace it. While most people here don't seem to think it worth the extra price, it was to me, and I've never regretted that decision!

Loss of sim/buddy port is due to how they got the higher frame rate. Not all channels are send every frame. This would cause problems with buddy box or sim setups as they expect/need every channel every frame. They just can't deal with the information stream.

The X9303 also gives you a better feel, easier programming, and a MUCH better display (which helps with programming with things like a full range expo graphic).

And if you end up flying planks or sailplanes at all, a lot more good stuff for them.

Now, for helis, the 12X is the step that doesn't make sense. Lots of nice stuff there, but not really anthing for heli flyers.
