Does anyone have any "gentle settings" for a DX6i Tx with the Hurricane 550. I DO NOT do any 3D (age and eyesight). Just want to hover and "fly around the pattern" so to speak. Moving up from a BH450. Wow this Hurricane is big!. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks and happy flying.

Hey Razorbk
You should have no probs moving up. It can be alot kinder than the 450 and just as quick. It just depends on your settings. Have you flown it as yet. What is it doing. To me it depends on the speed of the servos and the head speed. My only minorly unkind issue with the hurri was on the landing; dropping too quickly. I think throttle curve 0-45-80-80-85 Will work for you. To get rid of the quick drop, Pitch curve for me is 44-49-51.5-75-100.
The other guys may chime in. Get back to us with the info.
Cheers

Hey, my first heli was a Blackhawk 450SE. Still fly it every weekend, along with my Hurri 550.
I am old and blind too, lol, but use a DX7. I am certainly no expert, but I do fly like a 'Granny" too.
Keep the head speed up and it is real stable. In normal mode, I run a throttle curve of 0-40-80-90-100, that way the head speed is over 80% before it lifts off.
When I set mine up at first, I had + - 14 degrees of pitch with no binding, but don't need it for my flying. Changed swash mix to get + - 10 degrees.
Add some expo. I started with 25%, but then dropped it to 15% and it is still easy to handle.
Tail response was pretty quick too, with the G770 gyro and 890 servo for me, so I added 50% expo to the rudder to calm it down.
There are lots of helpful people on this forum that know a lot more than me about the Hurri 550, so hopefully somebody else will chime in here with some tips.

Well,
am flying the 550 also with the DX6i. But u can't adopt others settings, this stuff all depends on your motor & gear setup, servo speed, YOUR SKILLs and so on  But have fun, the DX6i is fun to fly...

exactly... I could tell you what settings I use, but my setup is probably different... even if it was an exact duplicate of mine, the settings would still be different..
I will tell you this... use an ESC that has a good soft start... in normal mode have a TC that gets you up to flight speed before you leave the ground (I set mine for 0-INH-80-INH-100) this makes sure you have plenty of head speed even on the ground or when landing... keeping the head speed up will keep the heli stable.
then get a pitch gauge on and set the max and min range of pitch in IDLE UP... once that's set go back to normal mode and again using a pitch gauge set it for what you want.. (mine is -3/+10) that's the only way to get it setup for you and your equipment...
You'll love the Hurri... yes it's a LOT bigger than the Black Hawk (I have a BH450SE in a box R.I.P.) and when those blades spin up the first time you'll be in awe and then once it leaves the ground you'll be in love....

Thanks for the info guys (PHILLYD, JERRYMAC, EMPHASER, MYSTICMEAD). Good info and took notice of the emphasis and keeping up the head speed. Still working on putting everything together. I love this hobby even though it sometimes seems like a money pit. Just wish I had gotten into it earlier. Thanks again guys and happy flying.

well I just got my Hurricane about a month ago off a guy from helifreads and gotta good price --I have a dx6i and my settings for normal mode is fairly calm
Trottle curve:
0-40-60-75-90
pitch curve :
0-25-50-75-100
I've done 2 flights on this setting just so I can fine tune I still am working out the stunt settings but right now doin alot of hovering and did some forward circuts and I gotta squeek someware ( I think the tail boom belt was alittle tight so I fixed that we will see tomarrow) but not bad so far I've put about 200 bones into it besides the sale, batteries blades canope and boom fins from at trex 600
well I know Im yakin so I hope my curves give you something calmer that usual:cheers
