Hello every one
I'm going to buy a stratus kit and need to know somthing
What's the diffrence between the Extreme head and the Tempest head :(
I want it to fly hard 3D but still fly real smooth.
Thank you for your time

Extreme Head= Metal head block, Plastic Grips, clipped axle, 160 mm spread between blade bolts
Tempest Head= All metal, grips and head block. 195 mm spread between blade bolts.
David
Where is there an option to get different heads with the Stratus??? I thought the Tempest 3D was just a completely different bird. :arggg:

The "Tempest 3D" is a different bird, but it's part the frame that's different and part the head that makes the Tempest 3D different from the Tempest FAI. The heads are interchangeable in the MA line.
David, correct me if I'm wrong....
Tempest Head: All Metal. Metal block, metal grips. I believe it use to be 2 piece head, but I think it's only a one piece head now....
I believe the Tempest head breaks down into two groups. 3D and FAI. I believe the differences are in the pitch arms and in the way the flybar is carried.
Extreme Head: Metal block, plastic grips.
Past that, :dontknow
I'm picking David's extensive knowledge library while at IRCHA on the Tempest heads and how to set up the FAI, so........ :noteworthy

So thats the only diffrence between the heads :dontknow The Extreme has a metal head and plastic grips, and the Tempest is all metal.
What's the diffrence in the flying between the two :arggg: Is the Tempest for smooth 3D and the Extreme for hard 3D? :dontknow

David might be a better source to answer this....
I would think that metal has less flex in it than plastic and you'd get less wear and more response out of it than out of a composite material. The flip side is that it bends in crashes instead of flexing and then snapping back into place. :dontknow
The Tempest 3D head is MUCH wider between the blade bolts, 195mm vs 160mm, and is suited to slightly more open and smoother maneuvers. The Extreme head is quicker but uses plastic grips to give some flex and allow the use of very rigid blades and very stiff O Ring dampers for lightening quick movement off center.
The Tempest head with the metal grips works well but in a crash, expect to replace the bearings also as the grips do not protect them at all. The plastic grips are more forgiving of crash damage.
Which head you choose should be based on the style of flying you want to pursue.Gordie
So what is on the Stratus? It looks like it is similar to the Extreme head since it has composite girps instead of metal. Are they the same? If not, should I just keep the normal head on the stratus for 3D???

I am into large FAI style manuevers. My Stratus is the one with the extreme head as in: Metal block/plastic grips.
The extreme head on the Stratus is not just very smooth, but the heli will track like on rails.
For precision hover manuevers I do recommend a bit of expo on the cyclics as the heli will react to the smallest input.
I have been doing extremely large loops with it to see what it does.
The heli will track extremely well throughout the loop (ignore the collective).
It won't brake out on the top or start to tuck under at the bottom. Assuming that you have started the manuever nice and straight, no L/R cyclic is required as it won't try to roll out.
Compared to my Expert which does require constant tiny cyclic correction during the manuever .
My 15 year old other X-Cell is on it's 2nd set of plastic blade grips, so wear on them is not really an issue.

Didn't know that... Good to know..
