I have a Raptor 30 with an OS 32 in it. It smokes quite a bit, more than my other 2 raptors. I was told that you can do a touch test by putting your finger on the bottom plate of the engine and if you can hold your finger on it for several seconds, you have it rich enough. Well, I can't hardly hold my finger on it for over 1 second and the thing smokes like crazy. Seems to have enough power but seems hot. Anyone have any thoughts on this thing??

What are your needle positions?
Do you have a temperature gauge? Finger test is subjective, it's dependant on how much heat you can take really or how good you can gauge temperature.

Depending on the fuel your running, the smoke test is almost useless. Most of the time you can lean an engine until it almost quits and still have plenty of smoke.
The finger test is the most reliable way if you don't have temp sensors or IR gun.

I'm using Curtis Youngblood fuel. What temp range should I be looking for? I have a venom guage that goes around the head. It is not actually installed right now. I will put it on but I'm not sure where an OS 32 should be running at. During spool up, I have to take it up very slowly because it sounds like it is going to choke and die. At midrange and up it seems to run fine.

Sounds like your low end is running rich. If you have trouble with bogging during idle transition, lean it out just a little and it should get better.
