No, and I have tried hard. In theory, you can open up the 4-1 and separate the receiver and ESV/gyro. The gyro can then be inserted in series on the rudder control line. However, this doesn't work since you can't completely disable revo-mixing by turning the revo pot fully counterclockwise like you can on the CP Pro. Even a small amount of revo mixing ruins the action of the heading lock gyro. Fully counterclockwise on the Pro 3-1 completely disables tail mixing. It doesn't on the CP 4-1.
I dumped the 4-1 and went with a Spektrum DX6 radio system, brushless motor and controller, and a separate speed controller on the tail and it now works fine.
BTW: you can't just use any speed controller on the tail. It cannot have any "soft start" or speed "smoothing" (intended to increase motor lifetime) features since this will increase the time response (more lag) of the tail motor. To try to deal with this, you have to reduce the gain so far on the gyro that you lose tail holding authority. Go with a high speed speed controller designed for running a tail motor (see them at HeliHobby.com).
I hope that this is helpful.
