If you are using the jgf400dh than you don't need the 40 tooth tail drive sprocket.(unless you are running 2s lipo or have the original tail box with the 10tooth tail shaft sprocket)
11.1v X 4400 X 9tooth ÷ 137tooth X .85(approximate parisitic loss) = 2727rpm
so if you have a 5:1 (40÷8) tail ratio that gives you 13635rpm at the tail rotor.I don't know of to many heli's that can hold that kind of speed.Put the 32tooth back on to give you 10908.this is still cranking and should be more than enough if your pitch/throttle curves are setup right(and concidered the max tail speed).Don't forget to balance the tail (static&dynamic) just like you would the head.At these speeds that's imperative to keep from bending/breaking things.

Bob,
First of all Great Job on the Videos!!!!!!
My first time flying the Blade CP Pro I had a really good/bad crash!!! I just replaced my skids and ordered the HDX300 CNC Head. I am not sure if the main gear can be used with the new head or not. I am having a hard time removing the gear from the shaft and if feels like it's going to break.
If I do have to replace the main gear could you suggest one?
Any help would be great. And a video would be better..just kidding.
Thanks,
dparkhouse

Hi Guys,
I started a build of the HDX300, but after reading this thread (not all of it but some of it) I think I should quit while I'm still ahead.
So far I have the belt conversion kit and plastic tail case. I started the build with the plastic tail and found out that
its just a POS and I was going to use the stock head off my blade cp pro to save some money.
I did however order a cnc tail from helidirect but will probable just return it and get my 70 bucks back, and I guess I can sell the frame on ebay.
The only reason I came on this thread was to find out if my e-flite park 400 brushless motor would work well with the hdx300
but now I am completely discouraged about finishing the build of this heli.
I guess I just wanted what the rest of you wanted  , I nice blinged, well flying, and 3d capable micro heli. But I guess I bought a ticking time bomb instead.
I believe my best bet is still the blade cp pro with direct drive tail, HH gyro, and brushless upgrade? :dontknow
What do you guys think?

Has anyone been able to keep the metal tail system from self distructing at more than 50% power? The tail shaft bends at this point for me.
What is the solution?
Thanks if anyone knows.

What pulley are you using? If you have the 40t dont use it and balance your tail rotor. My tail blade grip head is slightly drilled off center. Had to balance it.

I am having problems with the new T-rex head for my HDX do you have a video for that head yet.

I recently just finished building one of these helicopters for a good friend. And while it files incredibly well. I don’t feel it’s worth the effort. You’re better off just getting a 450 sized helicopter.
Some answers to some of the previous questions:
The new v2 tail. 3 issues were solved.
1) The blades included would have required significant shimming so that they did not slide from one side to another. What I ended up do is just cutting down some align 450 tail blades. Keep in mind you will have to balance once you do this.
2) The alum tail is NOT balanced. The 2 blade grips on the tail I build were over .5 gram off weight wise. I used a power scale for reloading to get them within .001 gram. Then balanced the tail with the cut down blades.
3) Reduce the amount of throw on the tail. After switching to the align tail blades you will no longer need very much throw. And by reducing the throw you will eliminate the leverage that helps to cause the vibrating tail.
The new v2 head…
As far as I am concerned this item is a piece of crap. All you need to do is go to RC Universe and read the posts. There are 2 thoughts you will notice if you read all the way thru the 100 pages of posts. Steve is very active early in the thread and when the new v2 items are introduced. But when any issues are discussed he completely disappears from the thread. I wonder why….
I had an issue with my head that you could not take the blade grips off. I would take a screw out and you could not pull the grips off. Now the reason I wanted to do this is that the damping was rock solid. To hard imo. So after discussing with Helidirect on the phone a couple of times they told me if I had issues with this head to just send it back for a refund. So after the out of balance issue with the tail I just sent it back. And I only received 85% of the value of the item back. This highly irritated me. Because I considered this item to be a safety hazard. :bomb:
I would not suggest for anyone to by a product that has HDX :badair: in front of it as Helidirect does not stand by and support their products.
After correcting the tail and placing just a stock plastic eflight head on the helicopter It was an nice flying little helicopter. I am only into light 3D but funnels, rolls, loops all were possible.
Specs of the heli:
3 HS-55
S3154 as tail servo
Logictech 2100
Esky Outrunner Brushless Motor 3800KV with 11tooth pinion
AR6100 DSM2
DualSky 1320mah 3s1p
Pitch:
+12/-12
Throttle Curves
Normal: 0,inh,80,inh,90
ST1: 0,inh,80,inh,90
ST2: 90,inh,80,inh,90
I was able to run a straight line of 95 but it was just too much imo for a stock plastic eflight head. But changing the curves to the above it was still ballistic and fun to fly
If there is interest of pictures let me know and I will post some. It turned out to be a very nice looking helicopter.

I feel lucky, I only have about $650 invested in my paper weight. Looks good sitting there. Has never flown right. I too destroyed a tail after up grading to the bigger tail pulley, helidirect would not respond to my e-mails when I questioned them on it. Will never buy anything they design again. Thought about putting it up for sale here, but decided to keep at as a reminder of how stupid I was. Live and learn.

helimik check out the hdx300 thread at rcgroups.your paperweight can now fly and well.

Been there, read them. It would hover at a foot, foot and a half. Try to hover it any higher and the tail would start to spin. Bring it back down and would hover ok. All the gears are tight and the belt is not skipping, Just acts like the tail can not handle the head speed. Might dust it off after I'm done with my latest project. Thanks to Finless, had no problems setting up my dragonus head.

I upgraded to the 40t tail gear, bent the tail shaft first time I ran it up, didn't even have the head on it, was so mad, helidirect would not anwser my E-mails would I questioned them on it. Took me 3 months before I broke down and bought a new tail. Has to be an issue with the gear slipping, even tried to use a spare set of T-rex tail blades, same thing.

go to the rcgroups thread and contact plastixs for the 2mm ejector rod shafts.they are not bending.but if you read the thread you will see the tail plates i made to convert to 3mm tail.im being sent an sx tail by a member to see if it can be converted using 3 mm flanged bearings.if it can ill post it up.

Hey Aristo, I do appreciate all your help, I did go thur that thread when I was building my HDX-300, and followed it for a while after I was done, but have not looked at it in months. What I am mostly mad about is I feel I was used as a guinea pig for a new product that was not ready to be released and they used us for feed back to try and get it flying, and then offered mods(upgrades) that you need to get it to fly. I worked on the real thing for six 6 yrs and have been flying RC ones off and on for 5 yrs now, so I think I have an understanding of how a heli should work, and I know I can build one, even if my flying skills are not the greatest. Can hover any direction, and forward flight is not a problem. Still working on the sim for 3d. It should fly right from the start without having to do the upgrades. Mods are intended to tweak the most out of it, not to get it to fly at all.

Hi Bob, I'm a newbee to heli's and building them. I've been flying a Blade CX2 and a Blade CP PRO. I'm not thrilled with the way the CP PRO was built. I'm tired of parts falling off during flight or at the slightest bump which causes more damage than it should when I land or crash. So I decided on a DX300. This is my first build. Your videos have been of great help. The DX300 that I bought came with a TX head. Are the linkage adjustments to this type of head basicly the same as the bell-hiller in terms of leveling the swashplate and all the arms at mid stick? Do you have a video of how to set up the pitch on the tail rotor? I need all the help I can get. The instruction that came with the heli are more like destructions.

Does anyone have a good battery mount for the hdx 300?

sean just build one using the trex carbon mount,it is very easy and really improves the handling.

Does anyone have the length of the rotor head and servo links, and would they kindly post them?
I'm having problems getting everything to setup just right to get ~ + & - 12deg of pitch, and getting the washout plate in the correct position on the slider at 0 pitch.

It appears the HeliDirect has changed the frame design on this heli. I just got this one a couple weeks ago and started on the frame. As you can see, there is a separate battery tray that makes it look like a minature trex. Here's a couple photos.
Is anyone else building this version?

I have had some problems with building this helicopter and Larry at HeliDirect has helped me out a great deal. Even set the missing screws that should have been in the kit.
Secondly, you have way too much blade pitch. Try +9 and -9. Too much pitch and you will tear up the head. This is a very small helicopter and does not need as much pitch to fly as a HDX or T-Rex 450 does. Watch Bob's videos and you will see what I mean

About the whole tail shaft bending thing.. Has anyone taken the time to double check the balance in the blades and the hub and the grips? How much out of balance is too much? I have a gram scale that goes down to .01gm.
Mine the Hub was drilled off center.
I replaced everything with Align parts w/3mm shaft...

I just finished buiding one of these and man so far its been a nightmare, cool heli but have been working on it for over a month with no sucess. Right now I have it completely buit but I'm having issues with tail holding the heli just spins left even if I give full right rudder. I have the 3800k motor and it came with a 8 tooth pinion larry at heli direct said I should try a 9 tooth but the tail still does not hold. I then went up to a 10 tooth and still not luck. Has anyone ran into this issue and have a fix??? I would love to fly this heli some day lol.

Watch Bob's gyro and tail setup video. That should help a lot.
Helped me. :)

 I have watched the video and my gyro is all configured correctly however the tail does not hold. I can give full right rudder and the heli still spins left as if the tail is not rotating fast enough to lock it in. This is why larry had me try going to a 9tooth pinion from the 8 that came with it the motor, when that did not work I tried going to a 10 tooth and still no luck I guess I could try an 11tooth if you guys think that would help? BTW my pitch is -1 to +10
not sure what esle to try here.
