dr5liter, I have had to move on from messing with this heli as now I am building a Swift and then next a Mikado Logo.
I messed with this thing FOR A LONG TIME to get it flying and I did get it flying but this heli is just not as capable of 3D flight at my level or even close to a Trex (or HDX450) which in my opinion is the bench mark for a small electric heli!
Sure it is a GREAT heli to learn on (like a blade CP) and have fun with but for awesome 3D it just is not there.
I hate to be HARSH to those that invested in the blade or the HDX300 but if you expect to fly it like a Trex or other very capable 3D heli... It aint going to happen!!!!
Sure the blade will do "easy" 3D... Sure you can get one flying good... Sure the HDX300 can get there. BUT in my opinion if KICK BUTT 3d is what you want it is time to move on.... Dont be fooled please..... DONT be sucked in by investing a large amount of money hopping up this platform..... IT JUST is not there in the long run!
REALITY CHECK......
So I am sorry but I dont have the time to mess with the Blade platform any longer and become a expert like I have with other helis. Thus I am sorry I cannot tell you the best motor, pinion, etc. I really would like to know the answer to your question but to be honest I am just not going to spend any more of my time to be able to give you the correct answer. If anyone knows me, they know I would not BS and answer when I DONT know the answer... In this case you probably know more than I :(
BUT.. I know there are plenty of Helifreak'ers here that will be glad to help you... I look to them as they have FAR more experience with this heli platform than I. Just ask in the CP forum and I am sure you will get your answer.
I am sorry for letting you down but I am moving up and working with bigger helis and just wont be able to spend the time to know the blade platform as well as people would expect me to :(
It's just not a heli I desire to spend time on.....
Again I am really sorry I could not give you the answer. I hope you understand?

Well, I think that Bob was generous.
This little guy (HDX300) has been an incredible trial. The quality is HORRIBLE!! The head is the sloppiest piece of hobby mechanics I've ever come across. Last night I found that my pitch slider control arm had bearings that would hardly turn (press in crooked) and I just found that the hole isn't tapped in one of the tail servo mounts. I've had to cobble the whole thing together from a collection of parts and other odds and ends and I feel like it may have been a huge waste of hard earned hobby dollars and spare time.
The thing that adds insult to injury is HeliDirect total lack of responsiveness on any issue.
It's my obsessive nature that makes me want to complete this thing and not walk away but I have a beautifully flying 450SE and a nice new 600 kit sitting staring at me. I don't think that I have much more in me for this silly little heli. :(
Save your money. Stay away.

It was mine too.... I really wanted to get this thing flying and to work... I actually wanted a little thing like this! I did everything I could to make it fly good! But in the end and while I did get it flying pretty good, I spent FAR too much time "tinkering" to be enjoyable once I flew it!
It reminded my of my first Hornet and the first Zoom... lots of tinkering, parts, etc and in the end was just not fullfilling and in fact FRUSTRATING!

hmm sounds like the blade cp pro lol
Guess this hdx 300 is right up my ally

Well, I stayed at it and finished assembly and tuning tonight. I didn't dress the wiring but just taped it around out of the way. It flew pretty well, to the extent that I could tell in the middle of an 8' carpeted hallway (it's late). The tail held great (GY401), even when I nailed it (to the extent that I could tell under 10ft ceilings). No vibration, very smooth, and the tail belt tension didn't slip.
The Park370 doesn't seem to be enough motor. With both the 8T and the 9T, it bogged badly when I tried to climb. This is even when setting the throttle curve at full 100% above half stick. I kept backing off on the pitch curve, trying to keep the head speed up and finally, it just wouldn't lift off. Oh well, no aerobatics with this guy...
But... On the second pack, all of a sudden the whole bird started shuddering, spun around, and dropped like a rock back onto the skids. The tail shaft had bent ALMOST 45 DEGREEES!!! What? Absolutely crazy. I checked it after the first flight and it was as straight as an arrow. Whew... Glad I didn't make it to the flying field. That would have been ugly if I were very far off of the ground.
Watch for a very decked out HDX300 on eBay soon. :D Okay, now where'd I put that Trex 600 kit?

That was one problem I had 3 times! Keeping the tail from EXPLODING... The tail shaft is far too soft. I think if you wanted to fix this yourself, go get some music wire that diameter as that woud be much stronger than the shafts supplied with this tail.

Why noy use the zomm 400 tail shaft, same diameter

Is this the one? I think that the Zoom 400 and Shogun 400 are the same bird?

No.
I am using this tail from this site
http://www.cnchelicopter.com/servlet/the-CNC-400-helicopter-cln-A%29-3dx400SE-cnc-belt/searchpath/277201/start/41/total/61/Categories
Also if you use this tail case instead it is the same weight but you use a better pulley and better shaft

THANKS. One more question. Which servos should be in those positions?
As if you are sitting on the swashplate on the mast.

k . I feel better. I am not alone in my frustration with this Tail chasing, shafty bending , second cousin trice removed on its step uncles side wanta be Trex. I do still like its frame and servo layout , so maby I can use it for something, someday........... Maby

I got the tail working by taking a piece of music wire (dont ask the diameter as I just had it in the garage) and heating it with a torch to aneal (harden) it.
Works great now!

HELP... Can you use a 401 gyro with the electric motor ie. the stock blade cp.. I burned up the 4 in 1 but can I use gyro, speed control, ect and make the tail rotor work???

Ok i have not gotten to the point where i have fitted my motor yet, But i keep reading about the tail shaft crapping out, and the use of music wire. How and where does the wire go? is there any pics of this? I did get the tail boom supports, is that the same or not strong enough?
I have just ordered the 8T gear for the tail rotor cause of posts saying there is not speed to counter the torque of the head and the stock 10t was no good. What other surprises are there? Thanks for the great videos and great forum on this heli, I know some people are done with them and dont like them but hey to each his owen

hi bob. can you post a picture of the tail with this music wire?

A picture wont really help as it will look the same! The wire is the replaced tail shaft so you wont really notice anything different. Basically you are making your own tail shafts.

Yea the shaft the bends easy on the tail case. The pulley, pitch slider, and hub are on this shaft. Your just making a new stronger one.

Hi guys,
i am rather new here, building HDX 300 after learning the trade on CP.
Now I have Sonix ESC and HDX-BLA adaptor with Outrunner motor, can someone please
post some wiring diagram as I am having hard time figuring how to connect all that.
Also can I use stock CP receiver and where do I connect HDX-BLA?
And regarding LiPo battery do I connect it to ESC or receiver? Or both?
Thanks

connect the battery to the esc will do. pwr is transfered to the receiver and your servos via the ESC when you plug the receiver connector to the throttle channel of your receiver.
