NOTE: Setting up the HDX HH gyro (same as the Align, telebee, etc) was a PAIN... You MUST make sure you program out the creep to get it to work right! Anyway this is a big video but worth the watch I think.

Actually this is a very nice heli to fly indoors in my office if the weather is bad. I like to see your flying vid, if it comes to that I might get one to replace my old Dragonfly wich I never fly anymore now I have the T-Rexes....... :glasses:

How does the thrust load from the belt pulley and main gear get transfered up to the lower mainshaft inner race. There must be some kind of spacer that I haven't seen in any pictures yet.

Well good question! There is no washer there but it still seems to work. I would put a washer between the two if you have one.

wish I knew that twist tie trick when I put mine together.I used a peice of string to pull the belt thru the boom,you had yours in before I had the knot tied.I'll rember that one,thanks

FYI, I pulled the frame video as I need to make a correction. I used the wrong screws for mounting the metal hardware to the metal frame plate. Not that it matters much but I will redo that segment in the morning and post it up again.

OK new frame build is up... Basically what changes was what screws to use where. No biggy.

However I do want to share this. The manufacturer shows the 2 main pulley idlers being under the screws for the rear servo plate. I did not like that approach personally.
1) I felt it was to close to the main drive pulley and might stress the belt more
2) It left longer run of the belt with no support.

So below is a picture showing how the manufacturer built it but in my videos you will see I prefered to mount them in the rear holes.

Just sharing for the benefit of all so you can decide.

I had the same concern. When assembled, the main shaft did not turn as smoothly as I felt it should. The upper retaining collar has a “stepped” collar but it seemed too large to ride only on the inner race. Both the belt drive pulley and the upper retaining collar appeared to have rub marks on them from the support tube. I took a couple of spare stepped washers from the blade shaft assembly that I had laying around and used them as thrust washers on each bearing. The washers fit the shaft perfectly. Now the whole main shaft assembly rotates smooth as silk.

Yes it DOES clamp enough but you have to REALLY tighten up the screws... This is actually no different than the TrexSE with aluminum boom as it slips too... The fix? Just wrap ONE wrap of scotch tape around the boom at the clamp and it will be fine.

hello finless,
you stated that when assy main shaft, to pull up before setting the upper collar. I found when I did mine originaly (before having ever seen this site and/or assy. vids,good work by the way, very enlightening) that everything was bound up so tight that the auto rotation gear wouldn't freewheel and the tail drive sprocket scrubbed the shaft support tube enough to leave marks in the top plate and prevent free rotation of the main shaft, as others have voiced concern over. what I finally did was install the auto collar and main gear, install the tail sprocket and use 2 ".001" feeler gauges between the main and tail gears to allow free rotation without excess end play. on the upper collar I used a dial indicator to set .001"-.002" end play on the shaft to allow free rotation of the main shaft,not that this part will make a great amount of difference as the lifting thrust generated will pull the main shaft up causing the tail sprocket to scrub the support tube in the end,but atleast I know the shaft spins freely to start.
this issue just begs for a set of torrington bearings for a remedy

ptremb.... all that is needed is a washer between the top of the pulley and the lower main mast bearing... I have already talked to Steve about the need for this.

Once a washer is in place it does two things:
1) Lowers the pulley a bit so the belt tracks in the middle
2) Properly captures the inner race of the lower mast bearing.

I added one and now it is as smooth as glass.... If you have ANY end play then the shaft can turn in the inner races of the mast bearings which is not a good thing!

I really enjoy this build because I have a Blade CP that i learned on. It would be nice to pimp it out and make it fly like a champ. My buddy works in a very large automotive garage and after work we break out the micro helis and have a ball.
