hey everyone,

i am buying an ion off a mate, it has all stock gearing the hacker motor and i am unsure of the speed controller, will find out more info on that later...

i am going to run the 3700 5s1p Evo 20 batterys (2 of them).. and i am wanting to do full 3d..

Can someone go through, what motor pinion, gears etc etc, blades i would need to make this thing pretty balistic on a resonable budget..

i have 690 vblades but unsure of the weight,

any info much appreciated, or even a link to somewhere where it explains it ALL..

Cheers,
matt

Motor: Since you already have the two stage gearing get a Neu 1521 and a 50t Secondary gear.

ESC Hacker 77.

Your V blades are perfect and if they're on the 175gr range better yet.

I'm using the single secondary and thin plate but I keep hearing good things about how nice is the double secondary and thick plate , but that's if you plan on hardcore 3d , If you're going to change it anyways get the double.

would the hacker std motor still be ok to 3d with? or do they still throw magnets?

You may also want to consider the 4350 EVO packs as they should last longer than the 3700's on the Ion-X.

THe NEU is a good bit more powerful than the Hacker for 3D.

Set your timer for 5 minutes once the packs are broken in.

Matt,

The original Ion Hacker motor lasted at best 50 flights! I believe that these have been improved with Kevlar around the stator and better bearings.

My new Hacker (replaced under waranty) seems to be fine now after about 40 flights. If you are buying a used Ion check that the motor has been upgraded.

If you have not purchased a motor for your ion, you might be better to go with a neu 1521/1.5 so that you are ready for 12S!

Cheers,

I have two Ions, one with a Neumotor 1512/1.5, 54T secondary gear. I am using a schulze 32.80KA ESC, and it seems to be running fine. Little gear wear etc. I have about 60 flights on this setup. With GP3300mah RX pack and 7400mah LiPo pack weighs 5.6kg!!! Performance is good but not blistering 3D. 710 Radix blades. ESC remains at ambient temp, motor 60 degrees C after 10min flight.

My second Ion is fitted with the Actro 32-3 Heli outrunner, 100 tooth gear and H77 ESC. I particularly like this setup, it is much quiter than the Ion-Neu, and the Actro runs much cooler than the Neu, by nearly 30 degrees C. This Ion setup uses a Medusa BEC and with 2x EVO5s1ps in series weighs 4.3kg. I am running some 680 mm CGT blades. 5 min flight with flips, big loops, big chandelles and pretty aggressive flying uses 2.2Amps. Motor temp is 35 degrees C, esc is at ambient temp. I have logged about 30 flights with this setup.

I am sure the Neu-Ion would fly well if I lightened it with a BEC etc, however the weight, noise savings, less gearing, cooler running etc with the Actro make it a clear winner combo in my opinion.
