www.cheapbatterypacks.com or www.batteriesamerica.com

Both will do a Tx pack from Sanyo 2700 mAH NiMH cells. SUPER nice pack. Mine goes months between charges.

I got a Eneloop pack from radical rc, great pack with no self-discharge.

Do you turn on your transmitter ?

I have heard others talk of going long times between charges in their DX7's and 9303's. I have two packs for my 9303, the factory supplied pack and a 2600mah Tenergy cell pack. After one day of flying at the field I am not comfortable flying the next day without charging. The voltage after the one day of flying will be at or very close to 10.0.

The normal capacity loss of a NiMH cell is 20% ~ 30% per month. How you can go months without charging puzzles me.

There is a new hybrid NiMH cell either out now or close to being out. 20% capacity loss after six months storage at room temperature. This looks promising.

can I charge Eneloop with a normal NIMH charger ?

Because these Sanyo cells have lower self-discharge rates. I have not used my Tx for over 3 months, and there was enough charge to go fly.

A 2600 - 2700 mAH pack should last two flying days even if you leave your Tx on all the time. IIRC the run time should be some 20 hours.

looks like its easier for me to buy some sanyo 2700mah loose here and make my own pack ... anything I should be aware / concerned of when making my own pack ? Im thinking of just using some silicone wire to connect the batteries all in series and then shrink wrap the pack ?

Yes, they are pr. definition NiMh's. Sanyo is making Eneloop as well, but they are only 2000mAh.

I got my pack 3 months ago, and i have yet to charge it (they come pre-charged), i suppose i have used the radio for 2-3 hours since i got it, mainly setup, but also some flying.

That will do it.

How do you charge it and at what amperage since it only has the small TX type connections.

Thanks,

Thomas

One more time.

Why bother with all the downsides of running a lipo in your Tx, when there are great, higher capacity NiMH packs available?

The Sanyo 2700 mAH cells don't self discharge (mine have held a charge for over 3 months). Don't have worries about over discharge. Don't have over voltage issues. Don't have to open the battery door to charge (can use Tx charge socket). Don't have worries about leaving fully charged for extended periods. And have a higher capacity (2700 mAh versus 2500 mAH).
