Aviation Boneyard - Tucson, AZ

stopped by the boneyard at Davis Monthan AFB while in Tucson today and snapped a few pics. Couldn't take many cause I was attracting attention and I didn't want base police hunting me down.

I wanted sooo bad to fly over the fence and get closer to the planes. Could have with the AP engaged but man... if I had a failure of some sort it'd be a ***** to get in there and get the remains

ya know if i were really rich that would just be the greatest shopping center i've seen! i hear back in the day thats where most p-51's etc were bought for for only mere thousands of dollars

Man, DJ, I was just in your neck of the woods (PHX) and actually thought about trying to drive to one of those places. It would be a bittersweet thing for me, I love to see em, but it would be sad to think they are retired and maybe even going to be shredded. I'll have to schedule more time out there next time.. maybe I can drop in to your 'hood and go meet your pot growin' neighbor.. :D :smokin:

Its like a little kid and his toy box. Wont let others touch the cool stuff. Only gives the junk away for cheap when Dad makes him. :lol:

and to think that those two shots only show about 1/8th of what is out there. tens of thousands of aircraft. but don't get too sad.... AZ is the best place for them. they don't corrode cause the air is too dry here and most of them are covered with protective coatings and covers. more than half of these aircraft can be flown within just a couple weeks time and at the rate this world is going lately I don't doubt that they will be used in conflict again. which makes me very happy :D
