Not having seen official results posted online yet, but have heard from the boss that Wayne Mason with our AH-64A Apache kit won the static portion of the scale competition with a perfect score!! Congradulations!!!!

Wayne was unable to compete in the flying portion due to 2 stripped servos..DOH.. We are certain next year he will be able to do even better!

This was Wayne's first entry in the scale heli competitions and he was very excited and intimidated at the same time. Apparantly a few others weren't too happy with the new kid on the block and made him feel a bit unwelcome...

Its hard enough to get pilots to enter the scale world without being put down and rejected by other scaler's... all I can say is way to hang tough Wayne. If this is how newcomers are going to be treated then it's no wonder there isnt more participation in the scale community.

this is what wayne entered... updated event pics to be posted soon i hope.

Awesome machine in person! Too bad we couldn't see it fly. By the way wingtip 582 is far from a perfect score. a 900 is a perfect score. What you saw is the scores after they were normalized (one's in parentheses) as they count for the 1st round of the contest as well. Still a magnificiant effort!

Wayne Mason 582, (1000)
Joe Howard 578, (993.1272)
Tim Dawson 569, (977.6632)
Boyce Wellmaker 489, (840.2062)
Emile Sheriff 487 (836.7698)
Darrell S. 423 (726.8041)
James Linder 359 (616.8385)
Rob Giles 131 (225.0859)

Seeing those 4 or 5 Apaches sitting at IRCHA on display was really cool. The attention to detail on them was amazing.

So has this heli ever been flown? Can't wait to see pics of it in action.

The IndyHelis AH64 is on my wish list for sure, but I don't have a vehicle big enough to hall it around. lol.

I think I got pics of Wayne's machine at IRCHA before he flew it and he did more than hover. I will post them in the AM.

A perfect score is 900 points. He got 582. The 1000 points is after all scores are normalized. Are you familiar how the scores are tabulated?

His helis is AWESOME, there was a crowd around it the whole event. He asked us to take pics before he flew, so we did. A lot of people took pics and video, he has obviously spent a HUGE amount of time on it and it shows from a mile away.

Dave
Nothing to apoligize for. There is a total of 300 points to be had from each judge, and there are three judges, so there is the possibility to get 900 points, which would be a perfect score. After the scores are totaled, the person with the highest score is normalized to 1000 points, and then the other scores can be normalized against this figure. Wayne did a beautiful job, but i did not get to see it fly. I would like to see the video as well.
