Hi there

I have just finished my 6th flight on my Raptor 50SE and I still have the trainers on. The second flight was on a calm day and everything was going well, I even managed to start circuits! However, on my later flights the wind speed was around 7-10mph and up to 15mph gusts and I was really struggling. I could control my cyclic well but keeping my altitute was a nightmare (I kept bouncing a lot on the trainers which produced a few hairy moments!). Is this a common problem for newbies or would increasing my headspeed help a little. It's just that without any wind at all it was fanatastic.

I live in an area with heaps of wind so I have to keep at it but would appreciate any advice on how to set up more for the wind. I have woodies on but what do all think about cheap heavier fibre glass blades and a higher head speed?

Cheers

Speaking as somewhat of a newbie myself....
The rotor disk acts like a wing, as more wind is moved over the disk, more lift is generated. With that in mind, I wouldn't think that increasing the headspeed or changing blade types would really affect that aspect of the flight characteristics. It is just something you have to learn how to deal with.

I would however recommend moving into carbon blades once you progess a little further... I hate woodies.

What flight mode were you in? Did you try using idle up 1?

hmm sorry for hijacking this thread or something but i cant understand this, 15 mph wind is approx 6 meters per second, i think 3.5 mps is classed almoust no wind at all sort of if u know what i mean (in other means u cant feel it blow unless u are holding a 5x5 meter big plywood wall) how could 6 mps even touch the helicopter then when it got a headspeed of 2krpm + or something, also i think a strong wind is up to 10 maybe 15 mps, and 40 mps is classed storm, could some1 explain this?? or is ppl just having hard estimate the wind?

Don't worry about it.......you will learn the more you fly. If the wind is really gusting the heli's jump up and down but you will learn how to control it and not panic.

Later you will see you will fly in wind and you will hover the Heli at 20 to 30 degrees just to keep it on one place........now thats fun.
