I've got a friend with a Century Hawk 30 whose headspeed is WAY too high in my mind. It has ranged from 2100 - 2300!!! This thing is also running an all plastic head, so I'm just waiting on it to blow up. :bomb: What headspeed would you guys recommend that he run for doing basic 3D?

Thanks for any help,

Hey,

Personally I'd say no more than 2000 rpm at the very most.
While we know the smaller models love head speed, 2000 is going to be more than enough to power you through any manouvers all without bogging.

You will need to look into your pitch/throttle curve setups to try to reign in the over speed.
Perhaps now's the time to even consider a govenor to help you maintain a constant head speed?

It isn't my heli, otherwise that joker would have a gov. on it. I'm trying to talk this guy into getting one, but it is a losing battle. Maybe with some advice from others with the same heli I can at least get him to lower his head speed.

1700-2000 should be more than adequate. :...:

1700 to 1800. I would not stay around it at 2000 or above. Thats a hell of a load.
Get to work on those throttle curves or get a gov. Before sombody gets hurt.

1600 to 1700 range will be fine for starting.

Thanks. Can I just measure that with a regular prop tach? How do I regulate it to that rpm? Do I need a gov?

I would use throttle curve settings on the transmitter or if your radio does'nt have throttle curve use the throttle maximum setting with the radio thus limiting the amount of air the engine gets at full throttle to control peak RPMs. Note that getting close to a heli when engine is at high speed is NOT recommended therefore, use a long distance tach.
