Noob charging question!

I have a vampower charger and 15003s li-po.......I brought a jumper box from work and hooked the alligator clips to the jumper box...then proceded to hook battery to charger....the li-po started to smoke so I diconnected the battery ...FAST....
What did I do wrong here? The vampower charger did'nt come with alot of instuctions...Any help?

omg! - probably the end of that lipo pack! - did you set the charger to lipo mode and not Nimh/nicad?

did you have the polarity the right way round?

For a pack to smoke it suggests massive over volts, or more likely a short circuit. Could be the pack was dead from purchase.

I wouldn't charge lipos with a charger lacking instructions - recipie for expensive disasters :-(

Actually too many volts like that does not let the magic smoke out instantly. However a short (= way too many amps) will free the magic smoke from the pack ;)
