hey everyone,

i see we all have some kind of trouble getting the right fan/clutch gap on our extremes/stratus's etc...

what about if you Machine up a round peice of Delrin about 1 1/2 mm thick so that it sits on top of the fan and the clutch prongs go through it into the fan??.. this way we could push the motor up tight against it and just bolt it together..

Do you get what i mean?... this would stop the risk of Metal to Metal contact, because as you know the stratus can flex a bit during 3D.

its just an idea, i am not sure if anyone has tried it with delrin ..

Cheers,
matt

This seems like a great idea but it has some problems. If you install the delrin (or any other) shim, and the motor flexes, sideways or fore/aft, the shim is bottomed out so the fan can only open the gap away from the contact and would force the bottom plate to flex down way more than if the floating uniball allowed the fan to close up one one side and open up on the other.

hmm yeah i see your point there.. what about making it out of dampner material like the fan dampners??.. that way it could flex a bit?!

If the gap is .020 to .030 they will not touch. Just get a set of feeler gauges and check the gap when you run everything in. If it is in that range, fly.... you will not have any problems.

The uniball design was intended to flex, hence the ball design. It has worked well for a long time now in several models.
