Any word from the sponsors of the Mulberry event on how things will be done this year or if the event will even take place?
Last years event was pretty dismal and we are hoping for a newer and fresher event this year or I think it may be doomed.

The quickest way to kill an event is to start talking negetive about it. :(

Unfourtunetly after last year it seemed pretty dead. Believe me, nobody wants to kill the event...only make it better.
This should be taken as constructive crticism and nothing more. This used to be a great event when pilots like Curtis, Jason and Todd used to come but over the past few years Mulberry has turned into what seems like nothing more than a money maker for the Imperial RC club.
In years past, people seemed enthoused about being there..this year not even the club members seemed happy about being there...only there to take our $$$.
Many of us our counting on this event being a good one and are just hoping that Mulberry 2006 can live up to the Mulberrys of several years ago.

Here is a quote from the Imperial R/C Club web site.
IRCC "Heli Spectacular" - November 11th & 12th, 2006 Mulberry, FL. This event has been established as one of the top R/C Helicopter events held annually. The timing also makes it one of the last opportunities of the year for "heli" pilots to get in some flying in great weather. This combined with the great facility in Mulberry makes it a must for many of the top "heli" pilots. In 2006 we are again running a mostly "fun-fly' only format. There will be no airspace issues, frequency issues or other distractions. Just fly and have a great time. Where else can one have a blast with sport scale and 3D, and not have any airspace limitations? The IRCC "Heli Spectatular"!!!!!!!!. More information will be posted soon. Contact CD David DeWitt for more information: benz425@aol.com.

I can think of plenty!
Anyways, I sent him an email earlier today in hopes of getting some info, when I hear something I will let you know.
They want a relaxing event and that's cool ... but it's so relaxed that not even the club does anything.
In the past pilots enjoyed Auto and Drag contests as well as free lunch and even a T-Shirt with an early registration.

The intent of the Imperial R/C Club in offering the Mulberry helicopter event is to offer a great central location for the heli pilots to gather and share information and have a good time flying. It is strictly a Fun Fly atmosphere with no competition. We have plenty of room to have separate flying areas for scale and the pod & boom helicopters. We will have demonstrations of the latest advancement in large scale electric powered helicopters and have a seminar on the newest electric motor and battery combinations. We will also have a clinic on how to prepare your scale helicopter for competition, where the pilot will be involved in practice judging his own helicopter. I will update with more details as we get closer to the event.
Thanks,
David DeWitt

I also received the exact same response from David via email and I must say I was expecting more than a cookie cutter response.
As I mentioned earlier..Mulberry used to be awesome but has suffered greatly since the organizers of the past events have left.
Last year left a lot to be desired for what used to be such a good event and large draw.
Please don't tqke these comments the wrong way as they are only meant to help.
IRCC can have another laid-back event if it wishes, it just won't draw very many people. This is not a bad thing; it would be great if it was a small event without any big-name egomaniacs flying 20 feet in front of neighboring pilot stations.

Good lord, brain fart... I thought Mike was talking about Port Charlotte FF! I was wondering all about it as I thought PC was a blast last year even though I was sick Saturday.
I was at the gate at Mulbery waiting for it to be unlocked last year, and had to drive all the way back to NC on a work emergency, so I completely mised out. :DOH
Laid back events are great to in my book. We used to have them all the time at Black Sheep and everybody seemed to really enjoy them.

I tried to organize some events like drag racing and auto landing at my funfly in may and nobody signed up, we had 35 pilots, everyone said how much fun they had and I plan on doing it the same way next year, I hope we get an even bigger turn out because everyone that said something to me here or in person raved about how much fun they had.
If I get the same turn out next year and have the same amount of fun I'll consider it a success.

It would be cool if we had some events but they aren't needed to make a fun event. 2 years ago David Harkey ran both contests and they were a big success with many pilots that signed up.
I think that most pilots just expected a little more last year, clearly last years event had a drop in attendance from years before.
Seems like ever since the 2004 event when the scale guys were shunned going into the 2005 event there was some issues.
Either way, I wish the Imperial Club the best this year and hope that they are able to make the necessary changes so that it makes this years event more attractive to the pilots and not the Treasurer.

Mike,
How do you know what kind of event Mulberry was last year? You spent the entire weekend with your nose in a busted helicopter. :D
Hope to see you there. I will make up for the missing video.

I don't think so, Las Vegas had there FF the same weekend as our Port Charlotte event and we still had an awesome time, this year we know there are no conflicts.

Mulberry is in Novemeber and Port Charlotte is in Febuary.
This year there may just be a conflicting event with Mulberry (and just down the road) by heli pilots for heli pilots...but..we shall see.
Port Charlotte Rocked this year!
And in January there is only one event to be at....CLINTS B-DAY BASH!

Looking forward to the event this year.

They did put up a new post announcing the event on RunRyder just a few days ago.
http://runryder.com/helicopter/t279226p1/
Also, you guys are right there was a lot of fun to be had last year and there was great time with friends..my point was that the club could have done more for the event than sit back and collect cash.
Either way if they have it I will go, it would just be nice if the club would spice things up a little like they used to 3+ years ago.
