Anyone with experience with the 502 gyro please tell me about you experience with this gyro. I have ran the 401 on my other raptor 50 with no complaints but i came across a deal on the 502. thanks

The 502 performs not a great deal different to the 401,
and certainly not as good as a 601 or 611
Nothing wrong with it however

The 502 performance is somewhere in between the 401 and 601.
Because you have mare adjust ability, you can fine tune it more to your style than a 401 can be tuned.

There are a few threads around on how to convert a 502 into a 601. It does work.
The only difference between the 502 and 601 is a few components missing on the PC board, once you install those components the screen will light up saying GY-601.

The conversion threads even tell you how to choose whether you want to use a standard servo or the 9251 servo from the 601.

Installing a few components makes the 502 a 601 with the same programming as a "real" 601? Like the internal programming will be the same? I know you can convert but reading this post made me stop and think.

The soft wear for the 502 and 601 is identical. the only diference is an IC chip and a few support components and a junper to tell the software if it is supposed to boot up as a 502 or 601. All of the setup and tuning options in the 601 are already active in the 502.
The sensor is identical, except for the sticker on top.

If doing the conversion. I would make sure your pirouetting auto rotation skills are top notch. I know a couple of pilots that did the conversion. They smoked some tail servos. They did the 502>601 conversion. Also the changed to the 601 to wide pulse. Servos lasted about 5 mins into the flights. Not a pretty sight if your skills can not land a pirouetting model.

Which servos did they have?

Ok so the programming is the same in the 502 and 601.... what changes when you convert a 502 to 601 then? Aside from it saying 601 instead of 502.

When you add the extra components it lets the gyro see a smaller angular movement and react to it.
So after the conversion the gyro will react faster to the tail trying to blow out and correct it before it gets to the point of no return.

I need to look into the servo issue, this is the first I have heard of it and mine has been fine with a 9254 for about a year now.
