Had this receiver (JR RD721) spare to put into my 450. It is twitching every now and then but only appears to be on the aileron channel. With the remote small antenna attached it dosn't appear to twitch.

Do you have to have the remote small receiver attached to the 721 or should it still opearte well without it??

You shouldn't need it. Try reorienting the antenna's on the base Rx unit. I see a lot of guys point the antenna "whiskers" straight out in opposite directions. You want as much diversity in the path to the antennas as possible. When they're both aligned on a common line, the diversity is minimized. On my Rx's I point the antennas at right angles, one points to the straight out from the side of the Rx and the other bends 90º and points either forward or backward or up or down.
