HI guys

I have just found out my ESC is on the blink and need to replace it.

I am not sure what to get.
I would really like to have and ESC with Built in BEC if poss
(I'm liking the look of the Hyperion Titan 80amp at the moment)

I want something in the region of 60-80amp.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Ben

I've got a Castle ICE 75 in mine. No problems at all. I don't know if it will fit with your frames. The ESC is pretty big. If that's the case then the Castle ICE Lite 75 will work. They're pretty cool. Logging, a very updated governor that works great!

So far my CC80 is doing OK. Gets a little warm because my headspeed is set up for 2700/2200 governed but it's doing good. If you have a Z-30 you might want just a bit more than an 80A ESC. I'm looking toward the ICE 100 in the future myself in case I want to take this thing to the 8S level. CC has also improved their programming options with the Castle-Link so it's a lot easier to set up if you have one. Or if you're crazy enough to spend the $$$$, get a Kontronik Jive!

Hi Guys thanks for the recommendations

Her are my choices so far.

Pheonix ICE 75A 8s 5a BEC $120 (+22 for castle link)

Hobby Wing Platinum 80A 6s 3a BEC $75 (+11 for programer)

Hyperion Titan 80A 6s 4a BEC $138

Scorpion 60A 6s 3a Bec $135

It looks like the ICE75 is the winner but its difficult to ignore the Hobbywing Platinum for that price.

Any one got any good links to the best prices for the ICE 75?

Cheers

Ben

Here's a link for the ICE 75... you can pretty much find it at this price at a lot places. I just chose these guys because I know them and trust them. $101.96.

I am using a Scorpion on my 550, have not had a problem but I am not doing any hard core flying. Just basic flight and some inverted. Learning curve gets expensive.

haha "learning is expensive" true that

one thing to look at is the bec that comes with the pentium- 3a really isn't that much power. i can't even get by with a 5a with my ds610s, but those are some power hungry servos. if you're running high performance servos and a flybarless head (which i know you are) then you may still have to get another bec to handle it all.

one other choice to consider is the align 75a. i've been running that with a z30 and 6s for quite some time now with no probs at all. it stays surprisingly cool and has a decent soft-start, and it's around $75-80, doesn't have a built in bec. the ice looks pretty sweet tho and the built in bec should handle all your elec's without a prob

I got CC 75A ICE, this thing is huge and heavy 2oz, Probably Lite version is good enough for 6s setup. I thought Lite version have less feature so I went with non lite version I was wrong.

Wll.. its pretty cool with USB programmer, I programmed afew stuff, better then couting beeps and playing with stick hoping everything worked.

Oh my 425 with E-Smart canopy its a very tight fit ifyou use the stock ESC holder.

It does fit underneath with motor wire long enough to get around the Servo Linkages.

Hopfully I can get it back up in air by sunday.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I like the ICE75 for a few reasons
Built in 5A BEC means tidier wiring on the heli and more reliability with less connections etc. Adjustable voltage from 5v to 7v Good govenor
data logger is a bit of a gimic for me as i have an eagle tree permanently installed on my heli.

I think the clincher is the fact it can also run 8s for those future experiments or bigger helis!!

The ESC mount on the Head Hunter frame will take it no problem with space to spare inside a standard canopy and i will probably be going to a Trex600 canopy in the near future anyway

Now i just need to find the right supplier that wont charge me a fortune on shipping to asia.

I read quite a few posts abou the Scorpion escs being not very good, they seem to be burning up on a regular basis and the soft start isnt!

Cheers for now

I've only heard about problems with the original Commander ESC from Scorpion, the new 6-cell ESCs are OK as far as I know. My friend flew with the new 60A 6S on his 6S 450 and had no probs.
