Good Morning everyone.
...Well there I was, just flying along and the thingamabob just broke!
Actually, that's what happened. This is only about the 3rd or 4th flight on this bird. I was flying figure 8’s and with only about ¼ tank left, she started making a bad noise. I brought her down, and just look at that main gear! What the heck?!
Have any of you seen this before? That gear looks like it’s made out of a very brittle plastic. I was lucky it was still able to fly and that I was able to land it!
I figure that either Hirobo has had problems with these before, or this one is defective. When I brought it to the local hobby shop, one of the customers said he heard that Hirobo did have problems with the main gear.
Do you know if Hirobo has upgraded their main gear, or if an aftermarket company has come up with a better gear???
Thanks guys! :D

I never heard of gear problems with the sceadu evo.

what engine are you using?
im flying evo 30, with OS 37 .
i would like to know if this bird is powerful enough to do loops, rolls and inverted flying..etc.
thx
What headspeed were you running?
There have been a few black gears that let go but pretty rare
There is a delrin upgrade which most of us run cos it's stronger,
smoother and quiet
0412169 SCEADU DTDS MAIN GEAR
The Evo 30 certainly can do inverted flying, loops and rolls.

MingMing, it'll do all those stuff, depending on the pilot

:D yes, i agree.
can you tell me how you set your pitch range for normal and idle up mode.
here is my setting
pitch -2, inh, +5, inh, +10 FOR NORMAL mode
throttle 0, 45, 63.5, 75, 100 for normal mode
i wonder why i have to push almost over 3/4 stick in order to lift up the heli with the above setting. Isnt it normal for an Evo 30? or something wrong with my setting? further information, im using cool power 30% with 1.5 turn ( - 3 clicks) needle. I feel that the back plate is not so hot that i can hold for few seconds.
your prompt reply is appreciated.
thanks

Jafa,
In addition to the delrin main gear, do most of you set up for a driven tail with the EVO 30?
Most people prefer driven tail,
but it's not a problem to auto without tail,
you just gently use aileron and elevator instead.
I thought Sceadu Evo 30 tail was driven even with black gears? DTDS???
You should not have +10 pitch on a 30 in my opinion, +9 deg max
even with 30% nitro the 30 has very limited power,
30's need to be reved hard and run pretty hot
What sort of blades?
NHP Razors tend to be narrow and don't lift well.
But you certainly do have a 50% F3C hover setup
so 3/4 stick is way too high - very curious indeed
Try a different pitch guage?
Was the flybar level when you measure?
I can't think of many reasons for this problem...

That's an unusual failure, to be sure. Shoot an email to Jeff Green at MRC/Hirobo or call him up. I bet he sends you a new one. PM me for his contact info.
You have 3 choices for the main gear. The standard one-piece gear like you have now. There is also a DTDS system used on the EVO 50 that has split gears and costs about $6 for each gear. I ran this on my EVO when it was a 30 and it worked great. It is a simple retrofit and doesn't require any extra parts. The third option is the machined Delrin DTDS system with a machined aluminum hub (the machined gears MUST be used with the machined hub). That setup will set you back about $90 depending on the vendor. But it is sweet. Very smooth and quiet. Stronger, too!
