Now that I'm getting better with my little rex 450, I was considering a bigger heli in the next 6 months or so. I was going to go with either a lepton or a rex 600. lepton seems really well designed, but wow parts are killer :P How's the raptor going to fit in here? It looks GREAT, and looks really durable, but I'm curious how much the consumables are estimated as costing. Things like mainshaft, feathering shaft, main gear, belts, etc. I'm seeing that the heli itself will be ~600 for the kit with no electronics.
Also, I'm seeing a ton of comparisons to the ion-x, even some using the same battery. What's the difference? Slight size difference? Excuse my ignorance, I'm pretty new to helis, I've only seen an ion-x, a lepton, and a rex at my field so far. :)
Thanks a bunch, sorry if I missed a post in the middle of that 12+ page thread, hehe.
Cheers,
David
PS - I'm an electric only guy, so I'm talking about the 600E. :)

My $.02..
The Razor versus the Rappy or the Lepton is like comparing a yugo to a caddilac.
The Razor is ridgid carbon fiber, equivelent to a .50 glow machine in size.
It has a tried and true Swashplate and head, that are pretty near indestructable.
Miniature Aircarft USA is geared more towards the higher ended users who don't have a lot of time to screw with replacing plastic parts or the headaches assosciated with inferior metallurgy.
No BS: You want a machine to keep you flying, go MA.
I've had other brands, and they all had something that I did not like.

ormandj, once you fly something like a Razor or equivilent you will wonder why you ever flew a t-rex to begin with. It is a peice of crap compared to something like this. I own a t-rex as well, don't get me wrong it is just a flip flp garden type heli to me though. You will love a bigger better E Heli. :)

Thanks guys. I'm mainly flying the rex because it's so dirt cheap to fix if you crash, and I'm still in the learning phases. I was thinking of a bigger heli to do stuff I'm good at already, and using the rex to learn on (after I sim of course..)
I was looking at the razor's frame and such, it really does look darn near indestructable. The only thing that seems to be a consumable is the blades/shafts/belts/gears.
What kind of packs are we looking at in terms of batteries? Trying to determine how much I'm going to be in the hole to get started. ;) I have a 1010c/210v already, so I'm good on the charger/balancer.
Also, what ESC will I need? I'm a Kontronik person when it comes to ESCs, so specifically - which Kontronic ESC will be needed?
Motor?
As to servos, what's the favorite?
I guess not many people are flying yet, so some of this might be up in the air. Just trying to get a ballpark figure as to my start-up costs with this heli. Thanks again everybody, I really do appreciate the help!

H to the C (Henry Caldwell) has a very efficient, insanely powerful setup. PM him and ask for details, his baby twins keep him pretty occupied.
I believe He's using 9252's on the machine, however the prototypes had 9650's on them.
ThunderPower 4500 5s2p's I think...The latest and greatest release certainly.
Consumables for MA is usually flybars, head axles, mainshaft, bearings and tailshafts.
HC's averaging the same headspeed for 7-8 minutes on his setup, using a Nue motor, and he flies HARD!

Hey , HC has the 1515 2Y Neu motor , very hot setup for all out balls to the wall type of 3D, its as had as you can get with the battery tech that doent cause any harm to the batteries, his flight time is 5 min , now Clint has a efficient setup that still will out do a nitro 50 , he has the Kontronics motor , 45-08 on 10S1P 4600s thunder Power , he gets a great flight of 7 to 8 min. for a second heli , I would suggest the kontronic 45-08 , it runs so cool ,
