Okay, here is what is going on. I have a Raptor 30 V2. It is fairly new and has been flying fine. Went to fly it for the second time yesterday and when I went to start it, my starter would not spin over the engine-no movement. Main blades would turn toward leading edge but would not turn the other way. Thought it was flooded so took out plug-same thing.
I then took out engine and inspected clutch and bell, looked fine. Engine turned easily by turning fan, bell turned easy, tail belt turned easy. Reassembled and the blades would turn freely in reverse so I tried to start it and it locked up again. I then split the frame and checked main bearings and starter shaft bearings and they turn freely with no grit. I swapped the clutch out thinking the one way could be bad. Reassembled and the same thing happened. What is going on here, any clues??? :arggg: :arggg: :arggg:

I had a similar issue, the cause was the engine fan slightly unscrewing off the shaft. That caused the clutch to push against the bell housing and lock everything up, pretty much just like you are explaining. If you have already replaced teh clutch, I would assume you would have caught this issue though. Just in case though... are you sure the fan/clutch assembly is secured all the way down against the engine bearings?

It is the fan like syn says.

Clean the threads and use a crank lock and if you have or can make one a fan tool to tighten down the fan, use blue locktite.

Then put the nut on with blue locktite and let it all sit over night before you try to start it.

Now Barracuda, how are you going to go telling the man to make a fan tool and then not show him what you mean?!

Here is a link with some info on how to make that tool Deano: clicky! (http://www.raptortechnique.com/fanhubtool.htm)

The other thing you can do is if you know anyone who flys Miniature Aircraft machines, every kit they sell comes with a tool that will work fine on the Raptor.

It was definatly the fan that was causing the problem. I had a crank lock tool. The nut had come completely off and I never noticed. Thanks!!! :glasses2:

The other, though less desirable option is to screw to bolts into the fan hub and stick a screw driver between the bolts and tighten the fan down. As long as you don't haul down on it this method works well.
