Hi guys,
My 700 has been pretty hard to start for the last few months, but if i just keep trying to turn it over with my starter, it will usually crank over a few times and after a few minutes i can get it started.
However on my last attempt at a flight, i managed to get it started, and i was holding the head so it doesnt spin (my clutch is rather tight) and then all of a suddon the strain on the head dissappear'd, the motor started reving more (as it had no load) and the oneway gear started spinning quite fast in the backwards direction! The motor was running fine. It looked like it was running backwards, but that cant be right!
I have pulled it all apart and cant find anythign thats slipping or anything.
Any ideas!?!

My Raptor 90 has done that. The engine is running backward. It happens all the time on planks. Sometimes the engine will reverse if it is idling to slow. Since the fire is there all the time it can run backward as well as forward.

This happened to me last week on my 700. Landed it, refuelled and when I started it up and tried to take off the motor started to rev but had no load on it. Switched off then restarted and all was back to normal.

I had a problem where my clutch was engaging prematurely after a day of normal flights, and had to hold the head as it spun the blades up and then I couldn't get it started...well it was the clutch. It had a stress crack on one of the legs causing it to engage while idling.
Check your clutch.

A Raptor 50 of mine once did it in the air, engine coughed and heli fell out of the sky with the engine screaming, OS50's & 91's are prone to it especially during cold weather and running over rich.

You are right RRios. My clutch had a crack in it also. It was engaging too much at idle putting too much strain on the engine. And must have made the motor decide it wanted to go the other direction that was easier to spin! :P
I pulled it all apart, put a new clutch and clutch bell in there, and gave it a good overhaul / clean up. Put it back together, and fired it up. worked fine, and i had a little test in my driveway thinking it would be all good for the weekend!
However, i get to the field the next day, pull out the 700 and go to start it, it starts, but then something let go and it starts revving out agian with no load on it. Ahh silly me, i didnt tighten the clamps that hold the clutch to the motor properly! Cranked them down, and now something must have gone out of alignment and i cant turn the motor over through the oneway and it feels rather notchy!
Arg! Have to pull it all apart again and figure it out! Bloody nitro's. Shoulda stuck with Electrics! :P
Nah, love the 700, but it does need allot more TLC than the 500!!
