put a 6S FP pack on the logo today to see what happens.
I dialed down the gov to about 80% of what it was and the head speed was about the same.
went up to 90% on the gove and wow ! it came alive. I bet this thing would lift some fair amount of weight.
motor temp after 10 minutes was 156° and it was 90° ambient.
I just wonder how well the A30-8XL will handle the 6S over time

Hacker's literature states 5S max, but when I spoke to them they were surprised I was running 5, said it was meant for 4. The only way to know for sure is to experiment! Was this 6S a prodigy pack? What mAh gave you 10 minutes?

I used a FP 6s5000. I didn't recharge it yet so I'm not sure how much it took.
I REALLY REALLY wish Prodigy would make a 6s5000!

the key is temperature and total wattage. the 4S/5S max was due to hacker controllable having lower switching rate. with CC controller, you can go higher V. this doesnot mean that you want to run higher power. that motor is 500watt at best. keep the power down and temperature cool and you should be fine.

I've got a cc phoenix 45 on my trex, It can handle 16 cells (ni) w/o bec, can it take 5S lipo? (can't find the info on their site)

yes, cc45 can take upto 6S I believe. no problem with 5S.

regular ph45, not hv?

hv can do 12S.

Yes, just tried it, but then when I switched to idle up I stripped the main gear! (Throttle response was set too high and I was in fixed endpoints) Being used to the minute long spool up must've tainted my judgement! :arggg: Still, beats wasting 70 seconds of every flight waiting for headspeed :D Thanks for the knowledge

So how does this motor handle the 6s? I have 4 2100 3s1p packs that combined would weigh only slightly more than one 5s emoli (545g vs 640g) but I would have 15c @ 4200mAh and 22V vs 10c(?) @ 2700mAh and 18.5v
I'm currently using my phoenix 45, think it would be ok?

I flew a couple more flights on 6S. it's hard to keep the watts down to where they need to be. I was averaging 515 watts with peaks of 1000 watts. Of course that was with a 20tooth pinion. With an 18 or 19 it might be fine. Something I would like to try.

I think you guys are asking for trouble, running this motor on 6s. It will spin at 24.000 rpm, which is too much for the bearings. I've seen a few of these cook on 6s in Swifts.
Another mistake is dialing the controller down so much, rather than using a smaler pinion. That will make any motor run hotter.
If you want to run 6s, why not just use the 10XL? We're talking about an $89 motor vs your whole AP setup.

not doing it for the long haul. just a couple test flights to see what it would do.

Seems that the molis have less output than true lipos, think 6s is doable with molis? Right now I have to run a 23T with the 5s molis to run 1900rpm, of course I'd drop some teeth if I go 6s.

hmmm.... I think you may be ok with 6s on emoli's with a 19t pinnion. do you have a watt meter?

Had one, i'm having a real bad electronics week :arggg: I hooked it up today and it's dea, power goes thru, but no reading. It worked fine two days ago. Guess I'll send it back... What do you think I need to watch for? Shouldn't the amps go down with more battery? I have a 20T here, I could probably gage what's going on by comparing the tached headspeed.

First test looks good: 6S emoli with 20T gave me around 2000 rpm, I dialed to just below the full throttle light on my cc45 and the tx was at 79%, when I give a heavy load the full throttle light comes on. The hottest part was the motor which was around 165, the batteries were a impressive 109 (compared to 135-140 on 5s) and the esc was around 100 by the temp gun but did not feel warm at all. Power was very smooth, not as lethargic as it had been. this may be a good combo, I figure the motor cost less than the batteries so eventually it will get changed out. As long as it stays below 175-180 I'm OK, right?

sounds pretty good. My 8XL gets to around 150-170° with around 400watts avg. I'd say youre within the limits of the motor.

I have around 10 flights on the set-up now, esc stays cool everything seems good, however it seems that I am getting shorter flight times. Any ideas?
