hello fellow freakers
I have recently decided to get a 200 size bird. I don't know which one to get.what I am looking for is opinions and experiences with both, good and bad, i fly a trex 450 and a trex 500 and dearly love them both.thanks in advance for your input. I will post in both forums.

Jim, I'm a die hard Gaui fan, I love my 200's. However there is a learning curve with getting them tweaked just right. Being as your comfortable with setting up Align I say stick with Align. I'm seriously looking hard at the 250SE, from all the build reports I've read and comments from current owners they are an excellent little heli and fly great out of the box.
The Gaui 200 is a great little heli but it seems to be hit or miss on them right now. Sometimes they are great out of the box and sometimes not so much. Get that 250SE and don't look back!

thanks for the advice,but from what I hear and read about the 250 has it's fair share of problems too. that being said, what kind of set up problems are you encountering?I only know of one guy at my field that has one, and he just says he loves it. If I knew what kind of problems the 200 was having, at least I could talk inteligently to this guy when asking questions about his set up.Thanks again-Jim

The only problem I've read about GAUI is with the FES version. Or, are you guys referring to the V1?

I have 3 different 200's, The V1, 200SD, 200SEV2, and the 200EX. Of the three IMO the 200SD is the best. Coupled with HS45HB's on cyclic and a Futaba S3154 on the tail, it's an awesome little helicopter. The 200SEV2 was okay but I had tail issues with it, so bad in fact that it became a parts bird. Now the EX was a first gen with the same motor as the SD and SEV2. It's a great bird, it flies as nice as my SD. There are tail issues with the EX, but can be cured with different geared tail pulleys. Head setup and tweaking takes a bit to get used to. A good gyro on these little guys is a must have.
They really are a nice helicopter, just stay away from the FES.

My Gaui 200 V2 on 2s with the 5150 walked all over a <better pilot's> rex 250 on 3s at the last funfly I was at.

I have both, and love both. The Gaui is quicker, the Trex is more stable. I was comfortable enough to hover in all attitudes with my Trex 250 in my tiny back yard out of the box on the first battery. The Gaui is too quick for that, if you let it get a little off kilter, it just goes- fast! I did have to spend more money on the gyro (Spartan) to get my Trex tail in check, whereas the Logitech on my 200SD works just fine.

Of the two, I fly the Trex more because it feels so much like my Trex 450, and I'm more comfortable with it in tight spaces.

Thanks for all the input- you guys are great.
I am not an expert pilot by any means, so 3d is not a factor(yet!!) but I do want a bird I can keep in the car and fly around whenever the opportunity presents itself. Stability is important to me, so I'm leaning towards the 250, but just not convinced yet.

I dont know if it matters, they are both fairly crashworthy, but if you do have a bad crash, there are more little bits on a 250 head that could get bent up. less head parts on the G200.

I must say I like the Trex 250 more then my Gaui 200 I have two and I have two Trex 250.
I fly the Trex 250 about 20 min- a day every day. I take one with me all the time. The Gaui's sit at home. I haven't had to get any parts for the 250 but they are at the lhs if I need them now . The gaui I have to order everything. that sucks

Interesting thread and glad somebody asked the question. I love small and micro RC stuff weather it be cars or helicopters. I'm enjoying my 450, and my MSR but want something in between.
My Dad has the Gaui 200 with the flybar-less system and it's a great little machine. I just tried it for the first time this evening and discovered how smooth it is, much like my Rex. I had expected it to be trickier to fly being smaller.
Since he already has the Gaui, and since I already have a Trex, I'm thinking I might look into the Trex 250. Are there fuselages available for 250 size? I wonder if my Kestrel 500's fuse will fit it. Or the Walkera 54Q3 Airwolf? That's an awesome fuselage, but the helicopter itself suck's.
How awesome would it be to have that Walkera Airwolf fuselage mounted on the 250? Or the Gaui without the ugly fly-bar?
One thing I do like about the Gaui, is it does not have the fly-bar and it has very nice electronic stabilization system.
So which is better? I say both are probably just as good as the other one so it's all probably personal preference.
What's the cost difference between the Gaui and the Rex?

250 is not more stable.

I use the same 250 blades on the 200.

The 200 is much more stable as effectively you are running a larger blade on a smaller body.

Also, I think you will find the replacement parts are slightly cheaper in black and silver.

There's less plastic on a Gaui 200 out of the box.
And the tail boom is titanium as opposed to aluminum.
I think a T250 has a plastic tail instead of a metal tailbox too.
But then there's a T250 already upgraded model out now too
that may have less plastic on it than the standard model.

It is titanium anodized aluminum. Not just titanium colored. The anodizing makes it extremely strong compared to bare aluminum. It is the only kind of tail boom i use on the 200.

yes it is anodised and that does add strength,but my point B was it wasnt titanium.Could you imagine the cost if it was lol:)

Yea, that would be an expensive tail boom. But it would probably be the last one you would ever need for this heli. LOL

are you sure it adds strength ? It doesnt seem any stronger than an aluminum boom

Anodizing makes aluminum more rigid and therefore less resistant to bending.
