I really did not know where to post this. But I thought the guys that are into electric Helli's would appreciate this. I purchased two of these solder stations , one for me and the other for my son and they work great . I have purchased other solder guns from Sears, Radio Shack and others and I can say none compare to to Aoyue 968 solder station IMO. One great feature is it has its on vacum hose built in with a filter to remove the smoke plus it has its on heat gun built in for heat shrink. This is my independent opinion from using this and others. The site above is where I purchased these but I think you can find them on Ebay ari-elk* AOYUE 968 solder. I purchase extra tips direct from the factory for $1.00 ea

That is a very nice looking solder station. I have always been a fan of the Weller stations, thanks to a physics teacher in high school who introduced me to them.

I have been wondering if the butane soldering irons are worth the money. I'd love to have one in my field box for quick repairs and for shrinking tubing. Why did you choose the PSI-100K over the other models?

I have a butane one and I have used it quite a lot. Always better than NOT having a soldering gun. ;)

I have the stienel TS 550 K butane soldering iron.I think it is the most worthwhile tool I have bought in a very long time :D I used to have a regular weller?soldering gun. That thing sucked I had to wait for it to heat up witch took forever and it made for crappy solder joints. The butane rig kicks a$$.I got mine for 100$.I will never go back to the electric solder gun.

What about those new ones (well not that new anymore) that uses batteries and cools really quick? Cold Heat soldering tool. Has anyone used one of those yet? I was gonna get one but decided against it. They had a working one in Radioshack but I never tried it out.
Heh, that is a nice soldering station. I am stuck with a $30 Radioshack one (its good though).

I've heard nothing but bad stuff about those "cold heat" irons. Don't waste your time with them.
Nice to see I'm not the only one to find SRA....I drooled over one of those rework stations, but in the end, I don't need the hot air and suction and what-have-you. I decided to get the 937 soldering station.

Heats up the same, without all of the other stuff. All I need, I'm pretty sure.

I use a weller iron that I picked up from DRMO while I was in the Navy, works great, but for field repairs, I use a radio shack butane iron/torch. (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062753&cp=&fbn=Type%2FSoldering%26%23047%3BDesoldering&f=PAD%2FProduct+Type%2FSoldering%26%23047%3BDesold ering&fbc=1&kw=butane&parentPage=search) Best bang for the buck one I've seen or found.
Do not buy Radio shack's soldering gun. I've had two now that have melted their supporting plastic!
I generally don't like soldering guns as the tips don't usually have enough mass for soldering batteries and higher gauges of wire. Get a weller 25 and a weller 80 with a hammerhead tip. With those two you'll be able to solder pretty much anything that needs soldering in our hobby.

Nothing touches the quality of Weller when it comes to solder, :smokin:

I have a Metcal SP-200. It is the best I have ever used. It's not cheap but quality never is. The temp adjustment is selected by the tip you use. You can usually solder with about 100 deg's lower heat then others.

Yes METCAL all the way. Great unit and you can get fair prices off ebay for used.
