so im making the conversion from the trex to a gas heli now. i got the gas heli down but now its time to go to gas. i was thinking a raptor 90 se but that is pretty expensive and i don't know if i will have that much time to play with it since im im in school and i have a part time job (18). i also have to fund this project but that shouldn't be a big deal since i know you have to get the good stuff for it to fly good.

im pretty avid into the 3d and i hear its easier to do with a gas. so, lets get a gas.

i finally realize that there aren't many gas helis out there, surprise surprise, but i want to have something with lots of parts availability which i hear thunder tiger has.

i was thinking maybe a raptor 50 SE (not sure which one) but i want a nice kit that will be tough and rugged and will do 3d very well.

also, regarding engine, what kinda engine would you guys recommend for the raptor 50 SE for nice power to weight

i also understand there is a tuned pipe you need to buy to optimize performance, might as well get that, whats a good tuned pipe for the motor to maximize power

in regards to servos, i have nice digital servos already so im not worried about that, but to the gyro and engine....

for the gyro, i know that the 611 is the bomb for it but i was wondering if it was really necessary. i run the 401 in my little trex and its fine with the 9650 tail servo. i was wondering if i use the gy401 and the 9654 i think (the one it comes with) would be good for 3d usage. things to consider, i will be attempting all the 3d moves possible and i do like to piro and fly backwards alot. good servo and gyro combinations here please, and list the advantages and disadvantages

now for the governor. again, im new to this so i am not sure here. on my electics, all i do is set the esc to gov and a straight line throttle curve and im done. with gas, its different i assume. can someone tell me how this part works as this part im not sure about. why do you want a governor, can't you just position the throttle servo to be full throttle? also, what are good governors and list the advantages and disadvantages.

if there is anything else i should know basically to get the heli up and running, please let me know

things such as fuel, blade combo, little techniques, and most importantly, things to stay away from, please feel free to share.

thanks for helping me out, im sure you get a lot of this, but i need to be sure before i buy stuff like i did with my trex. (which im happy with btw).

Raptor 50SE ..great !
O.S. Hyper + Muscle Pipe 2..very good !
O.S. Hyper + Hatori pipe..great !
401 ..very good
611 ..better
gov, ..love’em
they keep you head speed up were you want it.
I fly a TJPro……easy to set up, and faster, cheaper and weighs less then the GV-1

nitro-powered/glow-powered or gas-powered?

I'm pretty sure you mean nitro/glow from what you posted, but just wanted to be sure.

Scamp2 makes some good recommendations. I have found the GY401 more than adequate for learning on, if you are looking to save some bucks.
